Radiation in US
I am in early stages of dupuytren's. Nodules in both hands, no cords that I can feel, no contracture . I'm talking with Virginia Commonwealth University regarding radiation. I would much rather be pro-active regarding treatment. I'm looking for any information regarding radiation treatment in the US, this university, pros and cons of radiation, everything so I can make as informed decision as possible. This isn't easy as most of the doctors I have visited with have never heard of a radiation treatment and one tells me that the the research study was not statistically persuasive. This is just one of those areas where I feel like I'm flying blind. I'm looking for questions to ask the doctor, questions to ask myself, anything to help me put the facts together. Thanks for any input. |

At the top of this page is a link to the Dupuytren's society web site home page. Click on that link and the select radiation from their menu. That's a good place to start. Then come back here for more specific questions. I type to slowly to give all the answers |

Strangely enough, after asking the above question I found a radiologist right here in Topeka, KS that has used radiation to treat dupuytren's. Dr. Ralph Reymond the director of radiology & nuclear medicine at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka, KS (785-295-8000). Called yesterday, had an appointment and CT scan of the hands today and can begin treatment immediately. I'm going to wait about two weeks because of a holiday and some business travel. But I'm very pleased with his knowledge of the condition and the radiation treatment. He apparently attended a seminar where this was discussed in Europe within the last few years. I will keep this web site posted on my treatment and the results. |

That's great news, Wilson. Do you mind my asking how old you are? I'm 33 and recently diagnosed so looking into radiation myself. I'm American but live in England, and you've just reminded me how much quicker things move over there. |

58 yrs. almost 59. For what it's worth I first felt bump on the palm of my hand in mid-January. Seems like they've progressed a lot since then, although I don't have any contracture as of yet. I don't know about quick, but I've been very aggressive about being pro-active. I'm married to a surgical nurse and after listening to years of her stories have decided that whatever the problem I will not be passive about it. |

whooooohooooo thanks for jumping on and saying you found a doctor in Topeka.. I am from Kansas City and have been looking for one since I was diagnosed a few months ago... I will call him this afternoon!!! Thank you Thank you for posting!!!! |

I had my first appointment with Dr Reymond friday and will start treatment in a week. I iwll let you kow how it goes. |
