After surgery pain relief
My sweetie had surgery about 2 months ago and his poor hand is giving him so much pain. Heat seems to help a lot. I was thinking of getting him warming packs to put in some snug fitting gloves. Does anyone know of a manufacture that makes such an item. Any suggestions for pain relief would be appreciated.
He just started massaging the hand with vitamin e.

Unfortunately pain is often a common part of OS recovery. Yes, keep the hand warm with a loose glove when outside. Put the hand in a bowl with warm water before doing exercises. Take 800 mg of ibuprofen 2 or 3 times a day. You can't stay on that amount for too long, but it will help with swelling which in turn helps with the pain.

If your sweetie is having physical therapy, they may be dipping his hand in melted wax and then wrapping the hand in a towel. stays warm a long time. Also, fancy spas have these electric warm mittens that warm your hands after they put cream on them. maybe not very practical but still pleasant.

Hi Australia Calling. I've had some 15 hand surgeries including 4 skin grafts. Exercise is very important . Good idea is the warm water and not only to stretch but to make a closed fist . Do the exercises slowly then relax. I did have a plasterseen type of material (like putty) which I squeeded many times a day . This will help with the building up of strength.
Plently of Vitemin E (High Potency ) and also a Urea 10% creme is usefull. Wear white cotton gloves at night to retain the creme. If you dont work on it you will loose mobility . Just my experiences. Regards from Down Under.

Stores that carry ski clothing and supplies have little chemical hand warming pacets that are meant to be worn inside of gloves. They stay warm for 2-4 hours and are very in expensive. There are also some larger and more expensive chemical hand warmers that are reusable that you heat in boiling water or a microwave. Sometimes you can find those at a pharmacy.

small gel pads that when squeezed give a radiated heat these can be purchased from shooting or hunting outlets
