Amputation - Advice needed
Hi everyone
I'm new to the site, my mum has Dupuytren's in both hands and she has had corrective surgery on one hand which was unsuccessful. She has now been told her only option is amputation. I think this is very extreme and I want to be sure she has explored all options before proceeding down this route. Does anyone know of any UK based specialists who could offer a second opinion? Or does anyone have any advice at all?
Many thanks x

Re: Amputation - Advice needed
You are right to seek a second opinion. I have a pinkie amputated, and I know someone else who had it done too. It is not necessarily such an easy option as it may sound, as there can be both short term and of course long term effects (apart from just a missing pinkie), also there are different types of amputation, some with a more with a more aesthetic appearance than others, although there are pros and cons with all.
There is a list of surgeons on the BDS site here http://dupuytrens-society.org.uk/treatme...-organisations/, but to have a recommendation you should let us know where you are, or ask the BDS, they have a Facebook group, a forum and can be contacted via email.

Re: Amputation - Advice needed
Go to the Xiaflex website and look for a trained hand surgeon in Xiaflex. Google each one for a review then call and ask how many have they done.
I’m happy with my Doc who is on the US.
My best to you.
