Can't bend finger
Hi all, I have been sitting here for almost an hour soaking up the info on this awesome site! I think I have dupuytren in both right and left index fingers. Heres the thing though, the left finger has classic symptoms but the right finger is not curled but rather "stuck" straight out, fully extended. I can only force it curled about 90 degrees. Very tender and painful. There is a slight "catch" when I curl it. Is this dupuytren?
Sadie
btw, how in the heck do you pronounce dupuytren?

Re: Can't bend finger
Hi Sadie, don't trust remote diagnosis, you do need to see a doctor and have him diagnose what you are suffering from. Definitely! besides that, Dupuytren's sometimes can make a finger stand straight out. It depends where you get the nodules.
Regarding pronounciation you might have a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...ytren-0_57.html and at http://www.handcenter.org/newfile34.htm

Re: Can't bend finger
Sounds like tendon problems, and not Dupuytren's. See a doctor.

Re: Can't bend finger
Thanks Wolfgang and Callie! Yeah, I would love to go to the doctor and get some relief from this pain but unfortunately, I am one of the many whose company has had to downsize to stay afloat in this economy. I lost my health insurance, everything. I'm doing everything just to keep my head above water right now. As soon as I find another job though, this will be first on my list! It really affects my quality of life, not to mention it is annoyingly painful and tender! Thanks again for your help and I got the pronounciation now!

Re: Can't bend finger
Hi Australia Calling,It is very important not to self diagnose but again to do a bit of knowledge searching may bring some peace of mind once you know the problem. I have trigger finger after one of my operations, which in essence opposite to your problem. When I make a fist, the finger stays locked closed and clicks free to straighten. Have you received and injury or a dislocation of any of your fingers. I did some reading on 'sagittal band rupture" and teninitis which had some of your symptons. Check it out with a good hand specialist the longer you wait may exagerate the problem. Surely your medical system allows you to have a consultation. Dont wait your health is more important.

Re: Can't bend finger
Hi Newman! Unfortunately here in America, no money, no consultation. I have never injuried the finger but did have carpal tunnel release surgery about 5 years ago. No problems with the hand until now. I will have to look into 'sagittal band rupture' and 'teninitis' and see if any of them fit. I really need some relief from the pain and tenderness though, it is really starting to get me down as it interfers with almost everything I do. Thank you for your response and I hope youre getting along good with your finger now.
