capsaicin cream

Hi All

Over the past year I have suffered from the nodules in my left hand getting bigger, with cords appearing below the nodules. Both hands were swollen, especially if I did activities e.g. housework. Night time was horrible as I woke up, each night and morning with pain in both my palms and soles of my feet My feet were also in pain (around the soles).

In October I was given steriod injections in both hands (in the nodules of my left hand) and trigger finger in the right. This helped the swelling of my hands but not the pain in the nodules.

I asked the rheumatologist for Capsaicin cream in November to try out for the pain in my palms - this was prescribed. I've found this very helpful with the pain in both my hands.

Has anyone else tried Capsaicin cream? I would love to hear if this has helped them too. I have tried to look on the internet regarding nodules in the palms due to dupuytrens and Capsaicin cream but can not find anything.

Re: capsaicin cream

Welcome to the forum lp10

I too have not heard of any beneficial use of capsaicin with DD. Its pain diverting or relieving properties are well known, but it's hard to understand how a topical cream might penetrate deep enough to act upon nodules, and there is nothing about altering collagen production. Use it if advised for pain; isn't the usual topical alternative ibuprofen or diclofenac? But don't expect any improvement regarding nodules other than the pleasant sensations from gentle massage.

Do come back and tell us how it works for you.

Re: capsaicin cream

I tried it earlier this year based on a post, I believe, from this forum. Yow, did not like the results. I had to wash my hands several times to get the product off and did not use it again. In my experience it caused more discomfort and brought no relief.
