Cramping in hands

On a light note, I have been noticing occasional cramps in one hand or the other at night. It goes away rather quickly with flexing my hand or briefly massaging it. If I sleep on my hand or arm wrong, it might go to sleep, but I don't recall hand cramps before.

With Dupuytren's, there's always something to wonder about. I'm wondering if the cramping might be related to DD and why that might be. Or is it just coincidental?

Re: Cramping in hands

I have the same problem with both hands. Not to sure why it happens but it does. The cramps are in the palm and go down to the bottom of hands. Right in the middle to bottom. I hope i explained this right.

Re: Cramping in hands

I have noticed that with my other hand - not the one that is affected - that it will cramp if I hold it the wrong way. I was just reading something about hormones and how they affect the muscular/skeletal system. Haven't a clue if there is a link per se though

Re: Cramping in hands

I get hand cramps in both hands---both are afflicted with the disease---and I always have thought there was a relationship to the Dupy.

Re: Cramping in hands

I used to have exceptional strength in my hands and excellent endurance with manual tasks. Since the flare up of the Dupuytren's 5 years ago that has all changed. Certain activities which require gripping for an extended period of time, like holding a paint brush for example, will quickly lead to cramping of the hand in use.

I was photographing weddings and by the 6th or 7th hour I would also start to experience severe cramping in the hand that held the camera. Usually I could massage the hand and the cramp would go away for some time when using the camera but that was not the case with an activity that required tightly holding a object, as with painting.

To go from one extreme in terms of endurance to the other extreme can only be explained by the Dupuytren's. I know in part that my hand muscles and tendons and circulation is affected by the areas of impingement and the nodules so this may be a key factor that is influenced by the disease.

I have started using a DMSO and Urea solution that is sold by Dr. Stanley Jacobs for Dupuytren's though there is no clinical evidence of its effectiveness for this disease. The DMSO treatments by Dr. Jacobs worked wonders with my wife's juvenile arthritis when the treatments provided by the "experts" at Stanford Medical had failed completely and actually worsened her condition.

Re: Cramping in hands

I have just today noticed mild cramping in my right (dupuytren) hand. As well as that I have the feeling of loss of strength, as if I am going to drop something or suddenly release it. On top of that the rotation I had yesterday just seems to have gone. Hope this doesn't get worse....

Re: Cramping in hands

I hope things don't get worse. I posted a few years back about the cramping, and although it hasn't disappeared for me, it also hasn't gotten worse. So........
