Dr. Pess or Dr. Diaz

I was recently diagnosed and am more than a little consumed with DD research at this point. I've got an appointment with Dr Pess in New Jersey and also with Dr Veronica Diaz in Florida. Dr. Diaz is much closer to me (couple hours drive time).

Would be grateful for any comments regarding these two doctors (please private message me regarding anything sensitive).

I know from reading that Dr Pess has a tremendous amount of experience. I also know that Dr Diaz took over Dr Eaton's practice but surprisingly haven't read much about her on this site ----- certainly know she has excellent credentials as well.

Also ------ would appreciate any commments on the NA procedure ----- I'm get pretty anxious in any medical setting so while the NA procedure sounds fairly basic it still has me on edge.

Grateful for any thoughts on Dr Pess and Dr Diaz.....

Thank You!!

Re: Dr. Pess or Dr. Diaz

I'm also extremely squeamish in regards to any/all medical interventions. With fierce determination I had NA. The worst part, really the only painful part, was receiving multiple needle injections to numb my hand. The first few weren't too bad but each incremental injection amped up the level of pain. By the end (6? 8? 10?) I was just about at my limit. The actual NA procedure itself, however, was painless and easy. The doctor (Dr. Denkler) kept talking, the conversation was pleasant, and before I knew it, it was done (with outstanding results). My wife and I then talk a taxi to the airport, flew home, and followed the doctor's care instructions without incident. The procedure was performed on a Friday afternoon and I was back at work on Monday morning. I did follow up with 2-3 months of (no real pain or issues) PT with hand specialist, wearing a day splint for a while, and a night splint for a few years, eventually tapering down to zero.

On how many fingers did you have NA performed in the session you describe, and which? I myself can only remember one painless injection for my pinky, and it may even have been the same needle used for weakening the cord. I had close to zero pain during or after the procedure and also had close to full use of my hand when I took the light bandage off on day 4 and definitely after day 10 when I was no longer asked not to lift heavy objects.

Re: Dr. Pess or Dr. Diaz

IF THIS PUTS YOUR MIND AT EASY..

NA two times two different hands and fingers ...near painless and I am a baby !I think if the Dr. takes his or her time with the injections...they are no big deal ... However to be honest ...if a nerve is nicked ...it will really get your attention !

Would I have NA again if needed ... yes ! and that is probably the only procedure that I would have after doing tons of research and reading this wonderful forum ..

Also would be interested in hears more about Dr. Diaz

I have had NA with Dr. Eaton, Dr. Pess and Dr. Denkler. They are very different doctors with very different techniques and sadly, Dr. Eaton is no longer available. I have sent you a private message with information on doctors.

If anyone is interested in my opinions/comparison please send me a private message.

I had the MA on one finger - pinkie PIP. The numbing injections hurt indeed. But given the exemplary results, quite worth it.

Re: Dr. Pess or Dr. Diaz

Interesting. I wonder if anyone else has had 6 - 10 injections for NA in a single pinky and if what you felt wasn't the back-and-forth movement of the needle to weaken the cord in an insufficiently numbed finger. Or isn't the finger numbed on purpose so that nerves are detected when touched, and yours came close?

My doctor uses a topical cold spray for injections and NA. Xiaflex injections or cortisone etc...IT numbs the area and I didn't feel a thing. I have no pain tolerance in my fingers or feet. Anywhere else I can generally handle it OK.

Next time ask for this and your experience will be easier. Also in some cases the can do a block. It just depends on how thick the NA treatment is going to be applied in the node or tendon.....didnt help me at all.

Kind Regards
Cherise
