Dup at the Golden Globes

My wife saw this guy on TV at the Golden Globes and said he was clapping funny. Backed it up and replayed it and sure enough, Dupuytren's. I wasn't familiar with the actor but googled him and saw he has DD. Says he won't get surgery. Who knows why, maybe he waited too long. Both ring and little finger on both hands contracted into the palm.

His name is Bill Nighy from England. While I was reading about him, I saw Frank Sinatra had DD. I'd read of Reagan, Thatcher and a few others but was unaware of Sinatra.

Feel for this gentleman,,, what would be nice if he or some other very well known individual, would make mention of this disease.

Awareness...is what is lacking.

I may never see it in my lifetime...but a Dups. day of recognition...would be the start of a cure.

The only fairly common disease...that most have never even heard of.

This is very interesting... so what strings can we pull to contact this actor and get the word out about Dup.

Good idea to get this actor to come public. Maybe we can let him know about alternative treatment of NA and Xiaflex. It could help him. Look forward to your ideas and if I have any pop into my head, I'll post.

Re: Dup at the Golden Globes

Any of our UK posters know how to reach the publicist or agent of "Bill Nighy, actor from England"?

We could write to that person and make him aware of the Dupuytren's Society and this Forum.... maybe Bill Nighy can get us some much needed publicity for this disease...

Re: Dup at the Golden Globes

The UK equivalent of the society has a list of well known people including Mr Nighy that we would like to have help us with our cause. On enquiry the word we heard around Mr Nighy is that he is not particularly media friendly outside of acting especially in respect of his hands condition. I think we need to be cautious and respect people's desire to have privacy over their health conditions. (Even Ricky Gervais knew the boundary!).

Of course, if he doesn't want to discuss it, we respect his privacy and of those who don't want to discuss it...too bad, because in the end it could help him too.... and here we are in this Forum pouring our hearts out openly to each other !

Well actually we're not, or more precisely I'm not at least in public - do you know who I am?

Re: Dup at the Golden Globes

Did they use a hand double in Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Part 1?
He's the Ministry of Magic in that movie.

(And he was awesome in Shawn of the Dead, and, of course, Davy Jones in Pirates of the Carribean)
