Dupuytren's = Ledderhose?

Private insurance does not cover my prexisting condition.... Dupuytren's Disease. The insurance document says nothing of Ledderhose. I have a cord on my to large toe, makng walking painful. The cord could be called Ledderhose's disease, and/or part of Dupuytren's diathesis, or DD of the toe.

When I noted the cord I cancelled my private (non NHS) doctor's visit as I believed I would not be covered by the private insurance.

So... Do I get the toe looked at and possibly treated on my own dime, do I ask the treating physician what they call the cord, and hope they do not use the word "Dupuytren's", or do I call the insurance company and ask them if they cover it. Curious dilemna. Anyone had any experience with the details of disease definitions?

Re: Dupuytren's = Ledderhose?

I having the same type of problem with insurance. My problem is my last ins. company covered everything on my hands and they even paid for radiation. But now i'm trying to find new ins. because of job change and no one will cover me because of DD in my hands. So i guess we are on our own and we pay out of pocket ourselves. I can't believe these ins. companies will not cover this. I was declined with Coventry because of DD and the reason was i am high risk. Good luck.

Lets call it LEDDERHOSE - the insurance companies rarely knows about the sister-relation to DUPUYTREN ... and hope they don't discover it until your first OP or Radiotherapy !

Re: Dupuytren's = Ledderhose?

When I discovered nodules on my feet, I called the orthopedist I had seen for my hands for DD. I was told I had to make a separate appointment with a podiatrist. The podiatrist diagnosed plantar fibromatosis. He didn't know much about a connection with DD. My guess is that much of the health care system sees the two manifestations as separate, perhaps largely because they are treated by different doctors.

Mine was other way round - PF first, then DC nearly 20 years later. Hoping I won't get the 3rd manifestation!
