First round of RT complete for DD and LD at VCU

I just completed my first round of RT for both DD and LD on my left side. I chose Dr. Weiss at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond as she has the most experience with both DD and LD that I could find on the east cost. I received 5 days of treatment and will return in 6 weeks for the remaining 5.
Her research has shown no reason for a 3 month interval between treatment cycles. She also suggested limiting activity such as running, strenuous activity and heavy lifting etc., to the treated areas as well.

My experience was pleasant, painless for the most part other than a dull ache in the treated areas. I am tired however, this may be due to the stress of the situation and slight depression I’m feeling. Dr. Weiss and her staff were very supportive. I can't say enough nice things about them and VCU.

I was able to stay at the Hospitality House for a small donation. It was a short 6 block walk to the center and I was able to keep my car in the visitor parking lot at the medical center free of charge. All of which help me to keep down additional expenses. The good news is my insurance, Aetna will cover the treatments.

My expectations are realistic, I hope to stop the disease where it is and I am not looking for any miraculous improvements. I urge everyone thinking of RT not to put off the decision, the earlier the better.

Re: Dupuytrens RT in the USA

Hi Linda,

That's great that you did it. Congrats.

I was skeptical about RT, but now that I am 3 weeks out from my first round of RT for bilat. DD at MGH with Dr. Delaney, I am seeing big improvements. My pain and itching in the palms are almost gone, but most amazing is that the DD has shrunk quite abit. Even my family can see the improvement.

Best,
Fjellver
