Re: Fasciectomy before RT?

You stated you are 27 yrs of age. I would watch and wait in regards to Dupuytrens. Radiotherapy is best in the active stage in treating nodules and not cords. In my case when the disease was active I experienced an itchy type feeling deep within the palm some explain it as an unusual feeling. I was diagnosed in my late thirties and no surgery until around 50. These days NA is the first option to consider it was not around back then. Ive had 15 odd surgeries including 4 grafts NA and RT so I pretty well say I have a bit of experience with this disease. I am in my 70's still have full function of both hands and the strength in both hands. At this stage don't worry too much. Finally at 27 I would not be comfortable having the RT but I am not a medico. Regards.

newman, that's very encouraging that after all you've had done that you still have full function.

You said the RT treats nodes, but not cords. That's not my understanding. I thought it treats both, but is not very useful if contraction has already occurred.

Re: Fasciectomy before RT?

RT is most efficient on "fresh" nodules. It is not very efficient on cords. RT would not be able to straighten a bent finger. It might though slow down the growth of cords or reduce pain caused by cords. Typically this only works for fresh cords, much less likely for cords that have been in place for several years and have a very hard consistency. http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiation_therapy.html
