Re: FIXXGLOVE

BRIANB:
been wearing hand splints since 2009 just about every night ....still near perfect ....get new splints made each year per script..

I wish I'd known earlier about splints (first NA procedure in 2005) I have custom splints both hands and find it difficult to wear two on the same night. Been wearing them a little over a year since my last two procedures.

I need FIXXGlove for ring and pinkie on right hand AND index and middle on left hand. FIXXGlove said they could NOT help me and neither they nor I could modify the glove. Does anyone have any ideas?

What's wrong with wearing the FIXXGlove as is? I only need it for my ring finger and where it as is. Was considering cutting the other fingers off but really didn't see the need.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

The standard FIXXGlove supports middle, ring and pinkie http://www.fixxglove.com/fixxglove-usa---canada/index.html. Fixxglove offers also a version supporting all 5 fingers but I am not sure whether it is available in the USA
http://www.fixxglove.com/s-h-o-p---fixxglove/index.php

Personally I prefer splinting only affected fingers, including maybe the neighbouring ones to improve stability.

Juzo is another German company manufacturing night splints for Dupuytren's, Their Juzopro digitus nightsplint offers a 3 or 4 finger support http://www.juzo.com/lu-de/produkte/orthe...uzopro-digitus/. The difference to Fixxglove is that Fixxglove forces fingers into a spread position while with Juzo fingers are splinted individually. When wearing the Juzo splint the splinted fingers are straight but can still be moved relative to each other. That is reducing stiffness of the splinted fingers and allows to remove easily the splint from fingers that do not need to be splinted. The bad news is that I did not find a distributor for Juzo splints in the USA. Maybe one of their distributors would be willing to sell their night splints as well http://www.juzousa.com/locator.aspx.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

my was written years ago by Dr. Eaton ..after NA ...My GP just writes the same script each year .... I take the script to the same
C,H.T. and she makes the splints .. the splints only support the fingers that had NA ..pinkie on left hand and middle finger on right hand....also support the palms... I feel that is important ...because your palm curl while sleeping..
All covered by my insurance .....works for me .... still near perfect ...

Re: FIXXGLOVE

I wish I would have known about this prior to my fourth NA! If this is so good, which it appears to be, why isn't it talked about more???

I would have worn this right when I first saw the lump in my palm or when my finger started bending or worse after my first NA or Xiaflex.

Am I missing something?

It seems like there's way more discussion on NA vs surgery vs Xiaflex then on this.

1) the only one they make that splints the index finger is a full five finger one-- I'd be splinting thumb and two fingers I don't need on Left hand.

2) the other option is a 3 finger one- middle, ring and pinkie and I was advised not to cut it. This might work for right hand, I'd only be splinting one finger I didn't need.

I can't figure out why would I want to wear something more cumbersome than I need although it looks intriguing. I wonder if my hand therapist could modify it? Right now one of my splints is full hand with otoform in two fingers and palm and the other hand is just the finger part. I have an appointment w/hand therapist in a couple weeks to get measured and see if I need new splints.

Dr. Eaton RXd my original splint but I was only told to wear it for 6 months. I had to ask Dr. Denkler for an RX and I've worn them continuously--at night-- based on information received here. I wish I'd knwon this from the beginning.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Ahhhh. Makes sense. Since my bad finger is the ring finger, splinting the pinkie and the middle finger seems ok. In fact I wear the glove most of the day when I'm not too active and it doesn't bother me at all.

How bendable is the metal stay? Why I like about my custom made one, even though it's much bulkier is that it's not flat and the otoform is molded from an impression of my finger.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

It's actually easy enough to bend yet it generally stays with moderate use. I bend my ring finger so that it pushes my finger a little beyond flat. I was considering cutting off the other two fingers but think I'll simply cut another one and replace the one I have to see how it works.

Re: FIXXGLOVE

Hi Ed I was advised by Dr Meinel in Germany only to wear the splint during the night and not during the day. The splint should be passive and not exert any pressure on the finger in an effort to straighten the joint. Pressure should only be exerted up to 14 days after NA.
