Re: Hand Surgeon in Florida?

Thanks :-) I used to wear another self-made gadget to force myself onto the side to avoid sleep apnea, but with the hot temperatures and the hand splint I have been leaving it off so as not to feel like a complete cripple...

Re: Hand Surgeon in Florida?

My Dupuytren's has progressed to the point that I am considering surgery on my right hand. I had NA done about this time last year and it was great, at first, but didn't last. I am no longer a candidate for NA and was advised to have surgery. I'm very nervous about finding an experienced hand surgeon in Florida. I would appreciate any advise on how to go about exploring my options. Thanks!

Hello, I read about ur experiences with NA. that didn't work for me either after surgery caused a huge flare with all my fingers. The hand surgeon dr just blew me off by saying well that sometimes happens with DD. and left me no alternatives then left the exam room. BYE!

In my case I had only one pinky finger slightly curved before the surgery, I was told I had severe arthritis called Dupuytrens contracture and required surgery. After surgery all the fingers had began to curvature. The pinky finger that had the surgery contracted to a 180' closed to my palm less than 6 months after surgery.

I read about a hand surgeon familiar with DD in my area who was familiar with Xiaflex injections. The injections were done and opened my pinky, finally after 2 years what a relief to finally have a useful hand. I have to wear night splint to keep the fingers from contracting nightly. And wear a spring splint during the day.

Ask your doctor About Xiaflex , also check the search box at the top of this page on this web site for tons of info. on DD alternative treatments. For more information, also Check online Google Xiaflex vs surgery. In most cases surgery is usually the last option.

Kind Regards,
Cherise
Hi Cherise.
I have spoke to a couple of Doctors and a Professor in Germany and they are of the opinion to wear the night splint only during the night and not during the day. It may well be counter productive to use a Spring Splint at all for Dupuytrens.
