I have both, Dupuytren's and Ledderhose Disease.

This my first time in the this forum. I've read a lot of the post and completely understand what its like.

I noticed about 5 years ago that there was a lump on my palm. I am in the medical field so I knew right away what it was. CRAP. I went to see an Orthopedic DR whose specialty was Dupuytren's, and she is the only one in a large area who was trained to perform the new procedure of injecting into the nodules WITHOUT NOVACAINE................. She had me do the lay your hand flat on the table, at that time I could. Told me to come back when I couldn't.

About 2 years' ago my feet began to really bother me. I did not know about Ledderhose Disease at the time. I went to a foot DR who told me about it. WONDERFUL. the lumpy hard tissue had already almost covered my entire instep on both feet. I wanted to cry. Told that if they cut it out, it will come back. WHAAAAAAA.. LOLOLOL

So, for two years I have watched my left hand ring finger slowly move towards my palm. At first I had no pain. For the last two years I have had some bad pain in the outside of my wrist really giving me a fit. It ached like a real bad toothache. I would get pain in my palm where the nodules are also. Two days ago, my left arm went weak, I mean real weak. It scared me a bit, thought I was having a heart attack, I've had a silent one before. CRAP. I am having trouble with holding things etc. I called and made my appointment with this DR, but I cant get in until July 31. I am a little nervous because of the wrist pain intensity and arm the weakness. I would like to think if it got really bad she could squeeze me I sooner. I hope.

My mothers sister has it in the same spot I do. But not in her feet.

My families come from Germany and Ireland. So, I was sunk from the get go. LOL

I have read a lot of articles about this, and a lot of them say usually no pain or weakness, that is what has me worried.

I also have classic Rheumatoid Arthritis symptom's. But nothing shows up in my blood work. Swollen red feet and hands. Every joint in my body aches at one time or another. I'm not ready for the pasture, I am a young 56 year old.

well that's my story.

I pray for all to be safe and have a painless Holiday.

Re: I have both, Dupuytren's and Ledderhose Disease.

Hi MsPeachie

Welcome to our forum and thanks for sharing your story. I am not sure what to make of the wrist pain and sudden arm weakness. DD nodules can press on nerves and cause referred pain but who knows.

I hope by now you have read about the main treatment options we recommend with an evidence base?

For DD that may mean wait and see, or a steroid shot, or for early active stages RT, for modest contracture a minimally invasive treatment such as NA or Xiaflex or open fasciotomy. Your mindset should be management and care rather than cure. We prefer surgery for the severe and difficult cases.

It is similar in some ways for the feet, orthotics and conservative treatment, with surgery really as a last chance if nothing else works. RT for ongoing activity and there are some reports of cryosurgery being helpful, along with some people reporting hyaluronadise injections helps and others that they do not.

There are other anecdotal reports of management with magnesium oil, bio oil, splints and silicon scar sheets, and massage. You can search the forums to read and decide for yourself.

In all cases the best and perhaps most difficult part is finding a Dr who knows about all of these and has the skill, care and experience.

Best wishes SB

Hi MsPeachie, and thanks for sharing your story. I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you are suffering from this disease. I have DD and LD myself, but really not much pain in my hand. The nodule on my foot is painful though. Keep us posted on how it goes!
