I have some questions about RT with Ledderhose and Dupuytrens
Hello, I had RT done on my hands about 10 days ago. Since then it seems the nodules and the knuckle pads have increased. The pain has gotten worse. Is it possible that i set things into motion by having this done? I have attached a photo of my hands.
I have some nodules in my feet buy I'm PARANOID now about having the feet done because i don't want to set things into motion. when i was 17 (30 years ago) i had my left foot completely cut up and skin grafted due to this disease. I was thinking of having both feet RT but really worried.
can anyone shed some insight into if RT makes this stuff angrier?

I have had both hands treated with RT. On both occasions, the symptoms such as soreness, stiffness, other under the skin feelings, increased in the few weeks immediately after treatment. I did not experience any physical changes, for better or worse with the nodules or cords, in that time. Other people have reported this too, for hands and feet.
Longer term I have ongoing dry skin, the nodules have marginally softened, and for the most part the active symptoms have declined.

Yes the acute symptoms subsided, quite gradually though, over the following 3-6 months. I was quite certain at the time that the RT had not worked at all. In fact the first time I had it done I maintained this stance for a year or so. For the second time it is seven months elapsed and only now is the hand feeling quite settled.
Of course everyone reacts differently, but you need to take the long view. This may not help if there are reasons you want to proceed imminently with RT for the feet.

so in your opinion, should i wait a few months to see what happens? as long as i have it done in 2014, it will cost me zero.

RT is effective during an active proliferation or growing phase. Are the nodules on your feet exhibiting such signs now? If not RT is not useful as a prophylaxis.

Just a point to remember the Skin Grafts should be excluded from RT. I have 4 grafts and 2007 both hands received RT and the bolus was shaped to exclude the Graft.

why??? my skin graft covers the ledderhose site. So you are saying not to do RT on the graft?
also , FYI, my hands are feeling a lot better now. So to answer my own question and in case anyone else asks, when given RT, the hands could get worse, then better

I had RT done on both feet 30 months ago.....initially the nodules were grumpy and feet were tight.....my hands then became very achy and active this lasted for several months before settling down.... No treatment had been done on them....six months from treatment the feet started to settle down but then new hotspots started to develop .....and then new nodules....
The more stories I hear the more I believe in treatment accelerating the disease.... In my case in the hands.....then back to the feet....that said .....many people report excellent outcomes for RT.....which is backed up by good long term data....
My gut feeling is that RT is more successful for people with a relatively low level of disease activity.....by radiating a hand or foot you are not negating the root cause of the disease....which we are a long way from understanding and treating...
If I was in your shoes I would consult Prof seegenschmeidt and send photos of your situation.....he would be best placed to advise you on whether RT would be your best option......despite having RT and not getting the outcome I hoped for.....I would still consider it a good option for many patients in the proliferating stage.....
