Is there information about new diagnosis of Dupytren along with other conditions, such as RA?

While waiting to see a Rheumatologist, referred by my Primary doctor, I became aware of a lump in my palm. The Rheumatologist referred me, after confirming a diagnosis of RA and starting me on Methotrexate and Folic Acid, to a hand specialist who confirmed Dupuytren in a very early stage. Two months later, a Knuckle Pad appeared out of nowhere. At 66, I am feeling a bit betrayed by my body after not drinking much, not smoking much, eating mostly vegetables and grains... I have never been a heavy coffee drinker either, nor a drug user. I have done yoga and been active, although I have had 5 years of extreme stress recently. Just wondering about the sudden combination of symptoms.

Is there any research that looks at multiple diagnoses? I am not aware that anyone in my extended family has had any of these conditions. Heart disease and cancers were prevalent in earlier generations, yet both my parents lived long, reasonably healthy lives. The major differences between them and myself is my healthier diet most of my life and my greater commitment to being active - however, perhaps I have had a significantly more stressful life than either of them, along with more exposure to environmental toxins throughout my childhood. Their childhoods had a much cleaner environment, even if far fewer material goods.

Re: Is there information about new diagnosis of Dupytren along with other conditions, such as RA?

Welcome to the forum. I'm not aware of specific studies linking RA and DD. There are studies that show statistical links between different conditions, diabetes being one for DD, see here https://dupuytrens.org/faq/what-other-co...-to-dupuytrens/, and many of the people posting about their DD on here do have other health factors and they too seek a link, such as fibromyalgia, Raynauds, lupus, thyroid, RA, and on. But I don't think this tells us anything. Possibly a lot of these conditions are not really so much a betrayal as you see it, but an inevitable genetic and environmental impact of longer life spans. Having DD appear in your sixties probably means you don't have an aggressive form, and it can be left alone or monitored and managed using the established treatments. More reading here too http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytren_literature.html
