Just had RT

I just returned from RT from Dr. S in Hamburg. I had it done on both hands. Prior to the therapy, he examined my hands. I've been self examining my hands very, very closely for quite a while now and was surprised he marked many areas on my hands that I didn't even think were effected. I guess that goes with many years of experience.

I'm a bit surprised that after treatment, I feel very little effect. Perhaps my hands are a bit drier than normal. Perhaps they feel a little tighter than before. He did say some of the earlier nodes might disappear, but some might get harder (over the next weeks/months). I'm curious if anyone else experienced anything more harsh. I guess after the second round, changes might be more obvious. I know for the Dupuytren's itself I should not expect much if any improvement, just hopefully a halt or slowdown of progression.

Another thing that surprised me was during our conversation I mentioned that I thought RT for a given body part was a one time deal. He said not necessarily, but he prefers to wait many years before treating a part again.

I didn't get the ledderhose in both feet treated, although he thought that I could if I wanted to: it's far enough advanced. He thought that, if my feet don't bother me much, waiting is perfectly fine. I think this would not be the same for Dupuytren's. You want to get it before the contraction happens.

For me, the harshest side effects were about 16 days after the 2nd week of treatment. At that time I had redness and peeling in the treated area. It was a lot like sunburn, except that it was concentrated especially in the folds of skin. It wasn't that bad, really. After the first week of treatment I did not have so many side effects. That was for a hand, with seven weeks between treatments.

Re: Just had RT

Apart from the tanning short term side effect within a few weeks, I remained unconvinced RT had done anything to the DD for 18 months or so. I had some aggravated soreness for a while and ongoing symptoms, but then it all settled down, and apart from dry skin in winter, the DD nodules and cords remain in place but softer. Some people talk about a reduction in cords and nodules, maybe, but don't expect that, just hope for a slow down or halt in current progression.
