knee and shoulder pain

Is knee pain associated with dupytrens? My knee is very painful and kind of locks or 'catches' when I straighten after kneeling! Ive also got shoulder pain I can't put my arm behind my back grabs sometimes when im reaching for things and it wakes me up at night. The gp has given ome one steriod injection into the top of my shoulder which hasnt helped. Ive had us guided steriods into ledderhose in my feet by a specialist ortho some years ago which got loads better. He warned me not to have steriods without imaging after a disastrous encounter with a hand surgeon who injected my pip joints . my gp is rubbish so im not having another try. Wouldn't some kind of imaging help diagnose my shoulder and knee. I have hypothroidism and had a brain lesion and double vision last year and a few months ago got multiple brain lesions and a spinal lesion-(I had to firmly insist that I wasn't suffering with anxiety) and im desperate to get back to work. Im a critical care nurse and this shoulder and knee thing is very visable (aside from the whole ms thing) does anyone know of a Dupytrens specalist in north east Middlesbrough area?I think theres one in newcastle! Im sure the knee will be another autoimmune driven condition. Many thanks if you read this or can help!

Re: knee and shoulder pain

Hi cookie

I'm sure you know the link between DD and frozen shoulder is well established. Frozen shoulder does include pain at rest or at night. Not sure how to make a diagnosis that excludes other conditions. Ask an ortho colleague.

I have never heard of a link between DD and knees, or fibrosis conditions of the knees. People who have LD or other foot conditions may get knee problems as a result of unusual gait or stance. Your job sounds like it includes a lot of time on your feet? Could be related?

Re: knee and shoulder pain

Thanks Spanish budda. I havnt been able to find an ortho yet. I've been seeing a podiatrist and have had insoles and gait assessments. But it dosent affect walking. It makes me limp when I straigten up like something catches until I walk it off. It's very painful like snapping lederhose contractures - like being twanged with an elastic band. I'm not even looking for cures any more but all my lumps and bumps flared up massively with these new ms lesions. The mega steroid course helped amazingly, But it wore off In couple of weeks. I once had my index finger mri'd by rhemuatology- bit embarrasing lying like superman in a scanner for an hour whole the machine kept breaking! It showed the extent of fibromatosis of course. But on a shoulder im not sure what tissues are involved. Thanks

Re: knee and shoulder pain

A good physio will know how to differentiate between a cartilage or ligament problem in the knee, if that's what it is. There are also, at least where I live, specialist physio shoulder clinics that can help with shoulder diagnosis. Of course their expertise is usually based around injuries, and mainline conditions. After that it's a specialist and scans. Best wishes.

Re: knee and shoulder pain

Hello,

I have experienced the shoulder pain. I believe mine is due to dupuyrtens. I say that b/c the pain was in the upper arm. I was diagnoses with rotary cuff tendonitis. I noticed the pain about 3 weeks after being diagnoses with Dup.
13 days ago I completed round 1 of RT for the hands. about 10 days after RT the pain in the upper arm has subsided.

Re: knee and shoulder pain

Hi jolene I hope that is an end to your shoulder pain. I wish I had met a more proactive gp last year when my shoulder pain started. Still I saw registrar who was more easily persuaded to give me an xray. my poor knee has never even been examined yet. I will be 199 before I get a referal at this rate! GP's have to compartmentalise every body part! I have lumps on the outside of my thumb, like a bunion when I knock it is super painful. My twin sister is sure its a boney growth (she has the same) I checked with my mother whos hands are like an encyclopedia of dupuytrens but no thumb bunions. I will make a thumb appointment after my shoulder review and my knee appoint- in between my thyroid review and my MS appointments. Maybe I could make an appointment for my immune system one day - hopefully before I develop any more auto immune conditons. I would have RT on a heartbeat medieval though it is- if it would work x

Re: knee and shoulder pain

Hello Cookie,

Fortunate, I do not have to have a referral to see a specialist. I have good insurance. So when a new 'Pain' on a different body part crops up I search out the specialist for that body part. I have never been to so many doctors in my life. One would think I am 80 years old. Use to I would blow off an ailment. Thinking it will go away.. Now days, with having LD & DC I am trying to stay proactive. Lately, I have begun to think, my purpose in life, is to keep the doctors and their staff employed. I might as well just have my pay check directly deposited into their bank account.

I am no expert but I wonder, could those bumps on the outside of your thumbs be knuckle pads?
