Ledderhose at age 8?

I currently have early stage Dupuytren's and was treated with surgery for Ledderhose on my right foot about 6 years ago. My question has to do with an issue I had as a small child. Around age 8 I developed what the doctors called a fibroma on the plantar area of my left foot. Being that this was in the early 70s the only option given to Mom was surgery. However, the fibroma kept coming back and I went on to have two more surgeries about two years apart. It came back again but the doctor gave up and so did Mom. Yes, I still have the extremely sensitive lump and I was wondering if this could have been Ledderhose all along? Any thoughts?

Hi OneHartMess

IANAD but sure sounds like early LD. We have had parents of children around that age, post on here concerned about their children diagnosed with LD, so the young age does not rule it out.

Interesting that you don't say how it is now, and how it did or did not affect you. Maybe some insight from you there would help others.

Sorry to hear about the DD diagnosis, all the treatment options are described on this site.

Best wishes
SB

Re: Ledderhose at age 8?

Thank you for your response SB. The lump on my left foot that started as a child returned after that third surgery and remains to this day. It has never progressed in size from the 1 1/2 in by 1/2 in size that it was back then which would be about 38 yrs ago now. Not knowing what I was dealing with and never looking into any more medical advice for it, I simply had just accepted the extreme sensitivity of the surgical site. I will come off the floor if anyone touches it. I think even now podiatrists and orthopedic doctors aren't nearly as informed as they should be. I do plan to discuss it with my doctor in my next visit just to make sure he has a more well rounded picture of my particular DD. I even have a history of frozen shoulder a couple of years ago which, after doing research, I learned is also associated with DD. Again, doctors aren't looking at the big picture when going through their diagnostic procedure. I had nodules beginning on my hand at that time but of course had no idea it could be related.

So frustrated,
Staci
