My NA experience

I have DD in both hands. More severe in right little finger. A couple of years ago I had a consult with a local Doc who has a good bit of experience with Xiaflex injections. After a good bit of research, you tube videos, etc I decided to use NA. Dr Gary Pess in Eatontown, NJ was recommended to me. I scheduled a consult and then the procedure for the subsequent day. Since I live in Louisiana, I felt I needed a 2-appointment approach. I also opted for IV sedation since Dr. Pess indicated through email conversations that I would probably have 4-8 entry points. I had sent to him via email pictures of my hand/fingers. He responds promptly and answered all my questions prior to scheduling the appointments with him. I had the procedure this past Wednesday 8/12 and returned home on Thursday.

I found Dr. Pess to be kind and caring, treated me as though I was the only patient he had that day. Was seen on time (actually a bit early) in his Toms River office for the consult and was seen in the Camis ambulatory center in Eatontown for the procedure.

This is how the procedure went.
Taken back on time, given gown and placed all belongings in bag for safekeeping.
Nurse started IV. Asked for smallest IV needle - 22 gauge. Not really fond of needles so I figured I'd shoot for smallest one possible. No problem accommodating on that request.
Waited about an hour before being taken back for procedure - it was a busy center.
Just before being taken back to OR, Dr Pess came in, marked the fingers to be released and then I was wheeled back.
My right arm was placed in a stirrup, (yes, similar to OBGYN) only for my arm.
The anesthesiologist put some of her magic potion in my IV, I asked Dr. Pess one question and the next thing I knew they were waking me up to tell me the procedure was done.

Kind of like a colonoscopy, you spend lots of time dreading the thought of getting it done, but it was not a biggy!
My fingers are straight and I'm a happy camper! Fingers/hand are a bit tender and bruised but minimal swelling has diminished. Will be wearing splint at night for three months. I actually had about a dozen needle insertions so I'm glad I went the IV route.

Will update after 3 months. I would highly recommend Dr. Gary Pess. He learned the technique from the Paris Doc and I believe he's been performing the procedure for several years. Just hope he doesn't retire any time soon!

Great to read a positive outcome with NA. as you can now go on with the daily things you want to do once the strength is back in your hand. I strongly recommend the FIXXGLOVE you can order it from California for $74.00 it's very comfy better than splints. It has many selections and covered bu insurance. I will war it every nite for years.

I'd love to order a Fixxglove but I need one for my index and middle fingers and for some reason it doesn't seem as though they makes gloves for the index finger.

I had a very, very different experience with Dr. Pess than you did.

Maybe you can get the Juzopro digitus http://www.juzo.com/en/products/orthoses...zopror-digitus/ . It's similar but it has a variant where all 5 fingers are splinted and you can easily adapt it by removing the inlays of those fingers that you do not want to have splinted. You can customize it yourself.

          Hi,
I tried NA not dr. Press... It was Xiaflex injection than open a totally closed pinky.,after surgery cuz all my fingers began to flair from surgery. It was like the dominos effect.
So sorry I didn't realize that it was ur index finger. I have not heard of many with the index finger involved. There are many other types of finger splints that are made for basketball and volleyball players that are made for each finger available at any sporting goods store. Those are great too! Also many available online and on this site for your needs.
There are many spring splints available for all fingers. I love mine a easy wear during the day or when typing.
Take care hope your doing well and continue to stay on the straight and narrow as they say! Keep us posted on your progress.
          Kind Regards
