NA

Hi All
Recently had NA in Uk needle inserted horizontally to finger not vertically as I have had previously result profuse bleeding when finger manually straightened

Now healed but has taken 3 weeks.
Dr Lermusiaux in Paris always inserted needle vertically result no skin splitting on straightening so no bleeding finger Ok to use in 3 DAYS.

Anyone experienced this?

Regards

Graham

Re: NA

Hi Graham. Personally I am not sure how the needle was inserted during my NA/PNF procedure at Lariboisière hospital in Paris because I didn't watch. I don't believe it was vertical. It may have been at an angle of around 45° to the cord or flatter, but I can't tell for sure. All went very well in my case: little pain, no bleeding, hand usable immediately with caution and fully functional after the two weeks indicated by the doctor. Others may have better information.

Re: NA

Hi Stefan
Thank you for replying.
A friend of mine accompanied me to Dr Lurmusiaux in Paris and the Dr allowed him to take photographs of the procedure.
The needle was vertically perpendicular to the finger.
As I mentioned and you experienced no discomfort I took the dressing off myself after three days,no bleeding full use after about two weeks and this with a little finger that had contacted onto the palm of my hand!
If you know if Dr Lurmusiaux is still active please let me know.

Kind regards

Graham

Re: NA

According to his website http://www.jean-luc-lermusiaux.fr/index.php/bio he retired in 2010. But there are other experienced doctors at Lariboisière hospital (and elsewhere).

Re: NA

Hi Stefan

Thank you for the information.
Why are surgeons making such a patient friendly and elegantly simple procedure so complex.

Graham

I deleted the secondary thread you opened, which I perceived as a rant. Fair enough to rant, but it's misdirected. I do sympathise and believe your surgeon did not follow well established procedures for NA, as seen in many YT videos. But IANAD, and suggest you ask him instead, then post the answer here in this thread. There may be a perfectly sensible and clinical or medical answer.
