NA Anxiety
Hi -
I'm scheduled to have NA on my pinky pip joint on Friday with Dr Helgemo. Crazy enough Dr. Eaton actually responded to an e-mail I sent him and recommended Dr Helgemo to me.
I get anxious in medical settings to begin with and the thought of this procedure has been pretty wound up. Think I've read too much about possible nerve/tendon damage (don't understand how they can do this without seeing anything!!) and can't help but wonder if I will be the one that experiences pain with the procedure.
Anyone with positive experiences that can enlighten me on what this will actually be/feel like would be welcome!!

Re: NA Anxiety
There are some personal experiences of NA recounted on the patients page in case you missed them http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr...xperiences.html
The sense of touch is enough to help guide the strokes of the needle, the collagen cord is hard and fibrous compared to healthy tissue, and where necessary your own feedback, as the hand is usually not completely anaethetised but in close proximity to the needle entrance.
Myself I would be curious and inquisitive about the whole thing; I watch the needle go in for example on blood tests, injections, etc, but that's me. It would help to develop this attitude to medical settings as you get older

Re: NA Anxiety
Hi Broderbund,
I am older. I don't look. I don't like. I experience more than a modicum of trepidation at any and all medical interventions. But I had NA done some time ago on my small finger PIP contracture and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. The multiple numbing injections administered by the doctor were quite painful but the actual cutting/breaking of the chords and straightening of the finger were completely painless. Post-procedure discomfort was minimal. I followed the doctor's advice as closely as possible, including follow-up physical therapy and day (at first) and night (for quite some time) splinting. Outstanding results.
Best of luck,
