Need info Please help

Hi, I'm 25 and I'm from Niagara Falls, New York in the United States. I have Ledderhose and Von Hippel-Lindau disease. I have some question that I can't really find the answers for. I have Plantar Fibromatosis so nodules on both feet, they are painful and I'm afraid to get treatment because I never see anyone get out on top, no positive results. But my question is about Dupuytren's contracture. Every morning I wake up and my middle finger on my right hand is always locked, bent. My other fingers are affected sometimes but it's the middle one that it happens to every time, and it hurts at the base of my finger. Can this be an early stage of Dupuytren's contracture?

Re: Need info Please help

Hi FlawedFox and welcome to the Forum!

Best options for Ledderhose are probably radiotherapy http://www.dupuytren-online.info/radiation_therapy.html or cryo http://www.dupuytren-online.info/cryosurgery.html . Those are the ones where relatively the most patients experiencec improvement with it.

What you are describing with your fingers is probably a so-called trigger finger http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00024. It sometimes appears together with Dupuytren's but is something different and not directly related. Of course, diagnosis via Internet is not feasible and only a doctor can really diagnose it.

Thank you, I'll look into those options. As for Dupuytren's, it says if you have Ledderhose you have a 50% chance to get dupuytren's contractures, I'm not doubting you but isn't it more likely that it's dupuytren's due to a relative disease rather than trigger finger, or carpal tunnel? Or is this a common possibility even with Ledderhose?

Re: Need info Please help

Dupuytren contracture is permanent; it's not just a morning thing that goes away during the day. Carpal tunnel syndrom (CTS) is completely different, with different symptoms, although in rare cases Dupuytren's might cause a CTS.

Of course, there are diseases that may relate to Dupuytren's, you might have a look at http://www.dupuytren-online.info/IPP_and_others.html and related pages.

Even if symptoms are similar to Dupuytren's, there is a variety of other reasons for nodules and cords in the hand, see e.g. "First exclude other causes!" on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html . That's why it is so important that the disease is not self-diagnosed but confirmed by a physician.

That's all complicated but you find more info on this website, additional to the forum. Unfortunately there are many hand diseases and some may be related, others not. And of course, they can influence each other.
