Re: New here.

I'm a big fan of bicycle and/or weight lifting fingerless gloves - they are great protection for all kinds of things from driving to pumping gas to chopping vegetables. I actually wear them for biking too!

Speaking of cycling, does anyone have problems cycling long distances over an hour or two or three?

I wear gloves for weightlifting in the gym but that is just to stop the equipment rubbing on the DD nodules. I also double grip my tennis racket to soften it and to prevent cramp. Otherwise no gloves and no special treatment.

In August we did a 6 day cycling trip in France traveling up to 80 kms per day. I had no significant problems with my hands although I did have to keep varying my grip.

That is great to hear! I would love to do a cycling tour around France. I bet it was amazing.

Hello,
You are not alone. It has caused me pain
I have experienced tingle, crawling, burning sensation on me. There have been times I have slept holding ice-pack. This has relieved the pain. I had round one of RT. The first week following RT was worse. Then each week after it has lesson. I am 3 weeks out. I have recently been put on gabapentin. The sensation is now coming back.

Thank you!
What would he be looking for with the MRI? I live in macon GA how would i fined someone who dose RT?
Valerie

Hi Valerie,
I live in Atlanta Georgia. I flew to New Port Richie Florida for RT. I could not find an oncologist in the Atlanta area. My insurance paid for the entire treatment. I am uncertain what they would see on the MRI. I asked the hand surgeon Dr. Kay KirkPatrick about MRI. she said it would not show. The oncologist in Florida did not request one either.

Hi Valerie,

No Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick did not send me to the oncologist. She stated that RT is not very commonly used in the USA but if that was the route I wanted to go she would support me in this. She wrote the diagnoses up. I took it with me when I went for RT.

I found Dr. Hochman of Florida Cancer affiliates on this website for clinics who do radiotherapy. I called the office. Nikki was great. She ran the insurance and got the approval. She is an added asset to Cancer affiliates as she knows the exact codes to use to get insurance approval. She is fast, efficient, and returns ALL my calls in a timely manner. I went for the foot in July. During the 8 week break I notice signs of DD and went to Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick. I did this only because I knew it was the very early stages. Being the paranoid person that I am I wanted to make certain Dr. Hochman (oncologist) would agree to treat the hands. I absolutely Love dr. Hochman. He is very personal able. He treats me as though I am his only patient. I also met another lady who travel from TN. She was having RT on feet and hands. She was much further along in the disease stages than me. It was cool to actually meet someone who has this. I could vividly see the cords and bumps and her foot looked downright painful. Dr. Hochman told her the best she could hope for was RT to stop the progression as she was pretty far along in the disease. With my hands and the other foot Dr. Hochman said he wanted to wait for 12 weeks before round 2 of RT. He said Prof S. has changed his protocol at that and he wants to follow it. The radiation team is awesome too. They explained everything they did every step of the way. They allowed me to take pictures of the entire process

Originally I had LD in one foot only:
When I went the first time in July. I took with me the measurement from the ultra-scan on the foot
Went I went the 2nd time I took with me the diagnoses of early stages of dupuytrens. At that time Dr. Hochman examined the other foot and agreed that he felt 3 noodles so he treated that foot with RT also.

While on my break from round 1 of RT on original foot is when I noticed the signs of DD in both hands and LD in the other foot.

I hope this helps. I suggest you take with you All supporting document on this disease. And do not be afraid to inform the oncologist of ALL the areas you feel like is diseased.

As a rule I am not an assertive person. However with my health I have come out of my shell. I know I drove Dr. Hochman crazy as I chased him around the office, made him go outside with me to look at my hands in the sunlight (you could see the early stages better) He did all of this. He ended radiating the entire hand with the exception of the finger tips.

Re: New here.

Surgery shouldn't be considered until about 45 degrees contracture.
