New Zealand

Hi every one
Newbie here from New Zealand. And others on here from the same country as myself ?

I have had surgery on both hands over the last 8 or so years. One hand ,my right is the better of the two. I have noticed that nodules and pitting below my ring finger has begun to make them self noticeable again. No sign of curl as yet, all though my little finger has developed a little more of a curl than normal. My left hand has turned out to be the less successful of the two. Both my ring finger and little finger were released during that same surgery. Unfortunately an infection developed very quickly due to the dressings not being changed. It was only when I had my sutures out that the infection was found. It was a mess that took some time to come right, many apologies were forth coming from the hospital. I did have physiotherapist appointments over a month to try and wearing a splint to stretch the little finger due to it bending back to nearly where it was pre opp. Unfortunately the splint etc was not successful.
Apparently the next resort if required for my left hand is to remove the little finger as further surgery would be not worth the effort.

What concerns me now is that a nodual has become noticeable just below my left thumb and a tendon is starting to become noticable running down that thumb,it is starting to ache a little now.
Has any one else had both hands released and thumb as well?

Re: New Zealand

Before having my finger amputated I would look for a 2nd opinion. In New Zealand Dr. Albert Yoon in Auckland is listed for NA http://www.dupuytren-online.info/NA_list..._countries.html . Maybe he has a different view, at least worth a try.

My thumb developed a nodule and a little cord which I had it irradiated. It then has remained stable. Besides that I had surgical release on the left hand and NA and Xiaflex on the right one. I was lucky, all worked out well.

Re: New Zealand

Hi I note that you make no mention of a hand surgeon only an apology from the hospital regarding the infection .Were you treated by a Hand Surgeon - Private patient or a Public patient? It is not unusual to have a surgical procedure on two fingers of the same hand during the operation. In this day and age to talk of amputation is ridiculous .Who gave this advice?. Was the surgery a repeat procedure if so was grafting mentioned. I've had numerous surgeries including 4 large grafts one taking in the ring and little finger extending into the palm. GET ANOTHER OPINION FROM A HAND SURGEON. It is not that common to have dupuytrens affecting the Thumb and web . I've had surgery on both thumbs including grafts.
