Newly diagnosed, helping grandfather, question on treatment
Hi everyone.
I'm helping my 67-year old grandfather who recently has been diagnosed with Dupuytren's. I have so many questions!
In my research, I found this website: http://dupuytrens-contracture.com/
Has anyone tried his treatment regimen? Or do you have any comments on this treatment plan?
The large DCI plan includes the following TEN products: 1. Unique-E vitamin E capsules 2. Dusa-Sal DMSO Gel 3. Fundamental Sulfur supplement 4. Acetyl-L-carnitine supplement 5. Inflamazyme enzyme supplement 6. Scar Free homeopathic spray 7. PABA supplement 8. Topical unique-E oil 9. Quercetin-Bromelain supplement 10. Ultarsound 3 MHz therapy machine, model HS3040
My grandfather is located in Hawaii. Anyone know any doctor who treats DD in Hawaii?
Anyone here have tried the ultrasound? Is the ultrasound just used for deeper penetration of the oil?
Thanks and sorry if i have so many questions!

Hi kavi
Some people on here have indeed tried some of the remedies touted and sold on dupuytrens-contracture.com. It is a commercial site, they want your money, and do not publish results in medical journals. Save your money and don't believe the hype.
The only evidence based treatments that show any success are RT, Xiaflex, NA and various types of surgery. Nothing wrong with improving diet and lifestyle if or where appropriate, or getting some symptomatic relief through heat, ice, massage, etc, or making changes to reduce the risk factors.
Best wishes SB

Re: Newly diagnosed, helping grandfather, question on treatment
Hi kavi,
welcome to the forum! The website you are referring to is a commercial one. There is little to no scientific evidence for the effectiveness of this kind of treatment. Some components, like Acetyl-L-carnitine, might possibly be useful but they are, at best, experimental. Others are probably useless.
If you want to learn about proven therapies have a look at this website. You might start with http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytrens_contracture.html or http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html and then read through related pages. There is no cure for this disease, only symptoms can be treated and progression can be slowed down. Treatments depend very much on the stage of the disease. If you have questions, this forum is a good place to ask them.
Dr. Shin used to work in Hawaii but I believe she moved to New York. I don't know whether she stll practises occasionally in Hawaii.
