In June I had a fasciectomy on my left hand for the middle finger. I'd already tried xiaflex, and the only result was swelling that lasted a couple of years.

The new surgeon said that because of the amount of tissue in my finger between my palm and first joint, at that point surgery was the only option. I did it even though she warned me that there is a one in ten chance it would recur in the same finger each year and that because I was so young (52) it's almost inevitable that I'll have to do it again sometime. (Then of course there's the other nine fingers just waiting to curl up.)

Afterwards, she warned me that I could have some nerve issues for awhile because the nerve had stretched so much to accommodate that tissue. And I did and it faded. I can open my hand again enough to place it on the floor and do a push-up. I used to be a professional classical musician - how my goals have changed....

Then, about six months after the surgery that finger started to "fall asleep" once in a while. When I checked back with them, they said the surgery was so far out that whatever was happening was unrelated to what they did.

It's getting more frequent. Has anyone had anything like this? I really don't want to start chasing around at different doctors and becoming one of those people who say to old friends that I haven't seen in a while "Did I tell you about my last surgery...."

Thank you for support and understanding. I thought this was a place to gain knowledge and learn through the experience of others. I suggest you deal with it. And, thank you very much, my first post and you've warned me away from the group.

IANAD but perhaps it is a new problem, such as a new nodule or hard scar tissue pressing on the nerve. I would see the hand specialist and don't let them fob you off but get an investigation and explanation that makes sense.

You are right, I should ask my doctor. I just hate to get on the medical merry-go-round and be a whiner. As far as I know I have nothing else wrong in my back but I did break my neck around 10 years ago. It would be very ironic if the only finger that had surgery went numb years later from that old injury, wouldn't it? I don't have any other fallout from that injury.
