Re: Options

From what I read RT is most effective in the first year after nodules appeared. That doesn't exclude later treatment but then it is simply less efective when the nodule is already bigger. Heinrich Seegenschmiedt may have suggested waiting because normally you can treat an area only once. Should more nodules appear later you can't have RT again in the same area. That might be a rationale to wait but personally I wouldn't do it.

Yes we all have our own opinions and.hopefully when asked I qualified I was basing mine purely on my experiences these last 10 years dealing with the progression now in both hands. BUT if someone tells me they want to wait "for maximum effectiveness" based on research.I would ask why take the chance on waiting when research has also shown RT most effective early stage and can be retreated. Also age and lifestype are factors for me. DD became my nemesis late 50s when I was retired, felt I was in great physical shape and doing rather strenuous activities.
I thought homeopathy means, xiaflex injections. NA and all less evasive treatmenta were best for me and now I.can add RT. Why not try all that these learned researchers are researching..until there is a cure and until they know.the cause.

Re: Options

A month after 1st RT in left hand notice no change in nodules or contracture but guess that's good! The second treatment scheduled for Sept. Meanwhile I am scheduled for surgery August 18 on the right hand with Orthopedic Surgeon RT doc recommended. He was very knowledgeable (and think he was surprised how somewhat knowledgeable I was. (I credited this site in large part:) This is what surprised me. He prefers to operate using local anesthesia so we can communicate on manipulation and straightening fingers as he works. Procedure is to take 90 minutes. He said there is more bleeding this way but better success. I am scared as I know how painful the Xiaflex injections were and worrying about pain.
Regarding pain my right hand is painful to use.
I read alot of literature on DD that says DD is benign and liveable. Yes it's not going to probably kill me but liveable is a matter of interpretation.
I probably would have agreed with that totally 10 years ago when it was just beginning in my right hand; but for me now it is dehabilitating and painful and limiting my activity.
