Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture

Has any one reported a correlation between DC and consumption of nuts?

After having an operation some 10 years ago on my right hand, I now face a similar operation on my left hand. However in those years I wondered if diet could affect the development of the condition. For many weeks I would not notice any change, then over a period of a few days, I would get tighness in the palm, as if the growth was being aggrivated.
I eventually realised that it coincided with eating nuts- particularly if they had been exposed to air or possibly slightly mouldy.
Not all nuts seem to have the same effect- worst seem to be almonds and wallnuts but peanuts seem to have a slight effect.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has found a similar correlation with food.

Regards,

Martin

Re: Possible accelerated cause of Dupuytrens Contracture

Hi,
I regularly have burst of some parts and scratch my head trying to identify in retrospect the thing that I ate and that might have triggered it. My personal list of "could it be" include: sugar, alcool, vitamins, St-John's wort. Recently I questioned myself during a burst where I happen to eat many smoked almonds. I had included in my "could it be" list the spices of the almonds, but it could be the almonds themselves.

It is not unusual to have both.

Hadn't thought much about correlation between food and DD. Wouldn't be surprised. I do like all kinds of nuts, but I don't think I was eating more just before I first noticed my disease. I've always eating lots of nuts and still do.

Stupid disease!! Who knows??????

Probably that stopping to eat would solve the DD problem pretty fast.

Trigger finger is caused by a problem in the tunnel that the tendon in your finger runs through (the tendon sheath). This makes it difficult for your tendon to slide through the tunnel and causes the pain and stiffness associated with trigger finger.

Dupuytrens is caused by a build-up of material in the palma facia (just below the skin surface). There is no direct connection between the two.

You might also have a look at

As callie already pointed out, both conditions do appear together. They might cause or aggravate each other but they can also appear seperately.
