Primidone long term use and Dupuytren

Hi, I am a female 55 and have been on mysoline (primidone) anti epileptic medication for over 10 years now, I have found a couple of web sites that co-relate anti epileptic meds to duputytren disease? where can I find facts??? I would want to wean off the med. if that is what is causing my genetic issue to flare up...I am at stage 1 I believe...

Re: Primidone long term use and Dupuytren

Hi Julie,

you might have a look at our website, specifically at the end of page http://www.dupuytren-online.info/dupuytr..._therapies.html . There is some indication that phenobarbital might foster Dupuytren and Ledderhose Disease but this is not necessarily the case for other anticonvulsant medication. Even the link to phenobarbetal is not completely sure because some studies find a link and others don't.

I don't think you need to worry about your medication.

Re: Primidone long term use and Dupuytren

Posting here as well so all can see (I hope), new to forum use...... I was skeptical because I am female that I have the disease, but a hand surgeon diagnosed it...so we go from there. I have used the bio oil for a week, I will post if it helps after long term use. I was also taking biotin 400 mg (I think mg) or mcg cant remember so I am going to stop that, it says biotin is to help with elasticity in skin and helps hair and nail growth as well.....I been on that for two years so maybe I will quit that for a while see if DD goes away or dimishes. Glad I found this forum...its informative.

Re: Primidone long term use and Dupuytren

Women get Dupuytren's as well although on an average a little later than men. The average age of onset for men is 46 and for women it is 50 http://www.dupuytren-online.info/patient_survey.html . We have quite a lot of female patients on our forum.
