Re: question on RT

I will see what the hand specialist says. I hope he even knows about RT. I only saw NA and of course, surgery, listed in his site. It's just weird that he (oncology radiologist) now wants me to see the hand specialist. Not to thrilled with dealing with these docs. He acts like he thinks it's funny that I have been reading up on this. I even knew more than he did out the effect on feet. He called the foot nodules plantar faceitis (spelling) when it's actually ledderhose. I didn't correct him...he even noted in my chart that I had been studying up. I could tell because the new doc said something about it.

Re: question on RT

I think people are being a little too critical about anyone who does not know everything about Dupuytren's and the different treatments. I would guess that most radiologists don't know that RT is used for Dupuytren's. So why be so critical that hand surgeons or general practitioners might not know about RT for Dupuytren's.

Sadly Callie it seems to me many practitioners appear to know......nothing.......about other treatment options regarding this condition......personally ....with the implications for the patient I find this.......shocking.......

How many people have gone to respected hand surgeon and been sold surgery........when ......other less invasive options are .....available.......and .......probably more appropriate for the patient at that time......

A case in point.....a foot consultant tried to sell me surgery for my LD 3 years ago......he new nothing about RT.......I......elected to travel half way around the world to see Prof S. in Germany and had RT........I have full use of my diseased feet which I almost certainly would not have if I had the surgery.......THANK GOD FOR THIS SITE AND ALL THAT HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO IT......this has empowered us all in the club to make better informed decisions regarding our future treatments..

Because the GP or hand surgeon are usually the first then second point of call when seeking help with DD.

Re: question on RT

I went to see Dr Hildreth, who is on the list for the Houston area. Since I have onlu one nodule and cord and no contracture he said there is nothing he would do for me until I had contracture then he could recommend NA or surgery. So, he wrote up a report that says this and said to continue with RT that has already been started. He did say that I am the only person he has ever met that has done RT he actually called me brave (that didn't make me feel so good!) So, I guess he never refers his patients that way. Got a call from radiologists office and was set up to begin the 2nd round this week.
