R/T Therapy in Chicago (or Illinois) and Cost of Procedure
Hi All,
I was recently diagnosed with DD. The orthopedist was not terribly helpful or concerned, so told me to take a wait-and-see approach. I have since read about radiation therapy and it sounds ideal for those like me (nodule present, but no contracture). I looked on this website and could not find a location in Chicago or Illinois that performed R/T. I figured I would post in the event that another poster might know of someone or might have experience finding a clinic in this area. I am good with traveling to a different state, but figured I would try this first.
And while on the subject on traveling for R/T, for those that have traveled to Germany, how do the costs compare to the US? I've read things suggesting the cost is closer to $1,000 in Germany while over $10,000 in the US. The difference seems drastic, so wanted to get some additional perspective. I have insurance so I am sure that plays a role into it, but any personal experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.
Mike

Hi Mike. The cost of radiotherapy in Hamburg for one hand in two RT series of 5 days each separated by 3 months is 1.400 EUR, so a bit more than 1.500 USD. To that you need to add your travel and accommodation cost. You'll find contact details in the Treatment section of the website. You can email them a photograph of your hand and a description of your history, condition and evolution for quick feedback on whether RT is recommended at this time. They may well tell you it is still too early if your nodule is still small with no real evolution or cords. That was the case of my left hand for which I had originally consulted, while my right hand, for which I thought it was too late, was treated successfully in the sense that I have seen two small nodules go away and the biggest one and its cord, which had already undergone NA/PNF a year earlier, shrink and flatten.

Re: R/T Therapy in Chicago (or Illinois) and Cost of Procedure
According to the file Radiation Therapy Information on the Dupuytren's Contracture group on Facebook, Oak Park, Rush Oak Park Oncology Center, Dr. Dyan Wang has treated DD with RT.
There is also a DART group (Dupuytren's Advocate for RT) that you might find useful. I would caution that it is unmoderated, and some of the advice is ill considered, and posts are not always based on published evidence.
