Radio therapy in Sydney?

Hi there,

I have early stage Dupuytren's disease and am trying to find someone I can see in Sydney regarding radio therapy. My GP has basically said go away and come back when it's time for surgery but having read of some people's success with radio therapy I think I'd at least prefer to investigate that.

Any names of specialists etc. will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Radio therapy in Sydney?

I haven't heard of anyone in Australia doing RT for Dupuytrens. Most hand surgeons in Australia only consider surgery and won't consider other options. Dr Beard at North Shore Private told me that there was no alternative so best wait as long as possible. When I found out about needle aponeurotomy (NA) I went back to him and he tried to talk me out of it. The consequence of the delay is that when I eventually had NA the Doctor was not able to fully fix the small finger as the joint had fused.

I have no experience with RT but I can recommend NA. There a few doctors doing NA in Australia now and since they are the progressive ones they may have knowledge of RT. I suggest you give one of these gives a try. You will find a list on the page below

Hi Bellarina,

Have a look at this topic:
http://www.dupuytren-online.info/Forum_E...e-0_1256_1.html
it lists a few specialists treating with RT in Queensland.

I send their contact info a while ago to Wolfgang to see if they were interested to be listed on this site.

It hasn't happened yet, so I don't know what happened there.
Please feel free to contact if you need more details

Cheers,

Dirk

Re: Radio therapy in Sydney?

Thanks everyone for the help.

Has anyone been to Dr Borg in Adelaide?

I was thinking of going up to Dr Christie in the Gold Coast but if I'm going to travel I may as well go to the most experienced person and having read that other thread I'm now not sure if Dr Christie's the man. Apparently there's someone in Hobart too – anyone seen that person?

Thanks,

B

Re: Radio therapy in Sydney?

How did you go Bellarina.
Did you have RT or are you still waiting and see.
You know that Prof Michael Jackson uses RT for DD at Prince of Wales Randwick, in Sydney. Has been since early 2013 now.
Dr Meyers, a hand surgeon, supports RT treatment as an option for early stage.

Re: Radio therapy in Sydney?

I went to Adelaide for two sessions with Dr Borg, six weeks apart (this was 18 months ago now) and unfortunately I'd have to say it has made no difference for me and the Dupuytren's has got slightly worse since then, with more nodes appearing.

It's not yet at a point where it affects me much so I haven't done anything else about it.
