Re: Recent RT in Hamburg - Prof. Seegenschmiedt

Jolene, hopefully Michael will answer your question, but it's possible that he won't see it because he hasn't posted anything here in a couple of years.

I believe there is one physician listed on this site for radiation treatment in the Tampa area, Dr. Hochman:

I am sadden to hear this as that is who is currently treating my ledderhose. I fly back to Florida this Saturday for 2nd round. I was fine up until a week ago. Now I have the tingle sensation back in the foot. And I can feel the nodules while standing. the ankle is swelling. Last night I had MRI on the foot in hopes for Dr. Hochman to determine how deep to set the electron beam. I do plan on Dr. H. to view my hands and let me know what he thinks.

Since my 8 week break, I experienced the tingle sensation in both hands. A week ago I have went to hand surgeon who confirmed I have early DC in both hands.

Yesterday I sent pics of the hands to Prof S. he has agreed to treat me. Prof S. said by viewing the hand pics it is obvious I have early stages in the right hand. I'm Just uncertain as to how to make the German trip come together. Being single and traveling abroad is rather frightening.

Anyone want to be my travel companion? I cannot pay for your trip though.

The clinic is a 5 minute trip from Hamburg airport.....it is soooooo easy.....there are many reports on this forum....click on patients and then on personal experiences.....

I will be making my third trip from new Zealand in the next few weeks...

Re: Recent RT in Hamburg - Prof. Seegenschmiedt

Jolene, unless you stay 12 weeks, you need 2 trips for one treatment. Treatment consisted of 5 sessions of 3Gy, each 3Gy done on consecutive days , followed 12-16 weeks later by a second course of 5 sessions. So you need to be there for 5 days minimum each trip, Monday - Friday. Consultation is normally done Monday morning, first treatment session later that same day, then subsequent sessions the following days. I too have been for 3 trips, so am halfway through treatment on one hand. Hamburg is a lovely, vibrant, safe city to visit. The clinic is 35 minutes walk from the airport, or 5 minutes by taxi, or 35 minutes train from central Hamburg followed by 10 minutes walk or 2 minutes taxi.

Hi Spanishbuddha,

Thank you for your response. I wonder why you have been for three (3) trips when the protocol is 2 trips.
Did you have radiation on one limb and later get it on the other?

I have been in contact with Prof S. I am planning my trip Nov 9th to the 16.

I have been in contact with Prof S. I am planning my trip Nov 9th to the 16.
I made two trips in 2011 to have my right hand treated.

I made the first of two trips, so three overall so far, last month to start treatment on my right hand. I will be back in November.

Read the stories from others on this website, they include hotel suggestions. The decision I think to make is whether to stay close to the airport and clinic, or stay in Hamburg. With the former you need to travel daily to visit Hamburg. With the latter you have to travel daily for treatment.

I chose to stay in Hamburg. My routine was 07:30 train from Hamburg to the clinic, treatment usually completed by 08:30 and back in Hamburg by 09:30 with the day free for sightseeing. There's a lot to do in Hamburg including evenings and I preferred the leisurely evening stroll through the city to the hotel for the night. Whereas close to to clinic the small suburb of Langenhorn Markt, whilst delightful, really is dead, especially in winter. This approach means a modest 3/4 star hotel is all that's needed, I just use it for bed and maybe breakfast, the rest of my time is taking in the city. If I were to stay close to the clinic I would want a better hotel and expect to make more use of its facilities. YMMV

Hi jolene,

I have had my feet zapped for aggressive LD......but there is still some progression......my hands have stage N Dups and may be a candidate for RT at this time.....so..... It's possibly one more round for my feet.....and he first for my hands...

Either way it worth the trip for me......I am not the type to put blind faith in anybody......but Prof S. is an exceptional practitioner in this field.......his judgment and experience beats anything I can get in NZ..

I have decided I am going to Prof S. for my hands. I am in early stages.

I will be going in 9 weeks. have to get birth certificate, then passport. One step at a time, right?

I am concern it will progross to much by then.

How fast does this progress?

Just 4 weeks ago whenI first noticed this in my hands. Since then I keep seeing new growth every where
