RT aftercare

Hello all,

I wonder could those who have undergone RT describe the aftercare they undertook during and/or following RT. For example, what moisturizer did you use, did you moisturise in the days between RT, what precautions did you take re activities after the treatment etc. I'm going for RT shortly so any experiences would really be helpful.

Also if anyone has a copy of the aftercare sheet that Prof Seegenschmiedt provides to his patients that they could post that would be really useful also.

Many thanks.

I don't have the aftercare sheet anymore. I was playing tennis straight after. He recommends avoiding strain or friction. I developed a slight tan on the palm visible after about two weeks but only noticeable in very bright light. Dryness came on more slowly. I didn't bother with anything following a session that concluded in June, until winter, when dry skin became obvious. Especially after doing manual work such as gardening or DIY - my hand turned white as it defoliated from the handling. I do now get dry skin in winter with some finger splits if not careful. I bought Gormel cream with high urea content as recommended by ProfS but my go to cream in winter is Lotil, I keep a tube in the car and bedside cabinet. It definitely prevent the splits.

You didn't ask but I had increased levels of soreness for quite a while after the treatment. This has been reported by others too. It eventually calms down.

Re: RT aftercare

The only thing I did was apply a little moisturizing cream with Urea for about 7 - 10 days when my skin renewed and peeled three weeks after the first round. Nothing in particular during the treatment and no change in what I did after. The peeling was even slighter after the second round of RT three months later, nothing dramatic.

Search the forum for "Urea". My own recent post linking to the cream I like best because it less greasy has apparently been removed. The brand name is Handsan and you find it in local drugstores.

Re: RT aftercare

I didn't do anything and it worked out well. The irradiated area became a little dryer but I believe that went away after a few years and never was a problem anyway.

Thanks for your reply.

You mentioned that you were playing tennis straight after - do you mean like straight away the weekend after? I play basketball so just wondering if I need to sit out a couple of games/weeks after the treatment.

Also, when you say soreness do you mean extra aching of the hand/wrist from the DD or pain in the palm where the treatment was applied?

I was playing tennis the week straight after both rounds of treatment. I do wear a glove though. I can't say for basketball having never really played, but tennis can be tough on the hands (wrist, elbow, shoulder, feet, knees, back, ... ). I asked the Prof and he said it would be OK, so you can ask too.

The symptoms of soreness, aches, pain, stiffness in the hand in general just all seemed to get worse. Others on here have said it's like making the disease angry, or awaken, and I understand why they would say that. It goes away.
