Re: RT in Australia

Hi all, have just had my first RT treatment today with Dr Borg in Adelaide. His treatment regime for me is a total of five over five days, a six to eight week break then another five days of RT. He advised I was a stage 2.

Dr Borg said in his opinion he believes that if the Dupuytrens is hereditary you have a better chance of a successful outcome with RT. His opinion as to success rates is two thirds although he has done 20 patients with only two showing little or no change to date.

I found him to be very approachable, sincere and explained everything thoroughly. He actually answered most of my question before I could ask them. So far I believe the 9 hour drive from SW Vic to be worthwhile.

Best wishes.

Yvonne.

Re: RT in Australia

Hi Yvonne,
I just wanted to thank you for your comments re: Dr Borg. My husband has been sitting on a referral to see him for about three months ! Not sure if it was the right way to go, but after reading him your comments, we will be ringing and making an appointment tomorrow. Thank you so much :-)

Re: RT in Australia

Hi Jan
I received RT in Germany in 2007. When I returned to Adelaide I made contact with Dr Borg as I saw that he had an interest in the treatment of Benign Diseases. He had also been in contact with Prof. Seegenschmiedt previously in the treatment of Heel Spur using RT and was aware of the treatment for Dupuytrens.
I brought a book written by the Prof and others in Germany " radiotherapy in the treatment of non-benign disorders "where the protocols are fully discussed. Dr Borg was very interested and purchased the book. When I spoke with him he had treated patients for Ledderhose with a good success rate. After meeting him he agreed to list on the Dupuytren Society Web page. I found him to be a very sincere person.

Re: RT in Australia

Hi Jan,

Glad to be of help. Good luck to your husband. I'm sure he will be impressed with Dr.Borg. Do you have far to travel or do you live in Adelaide? My next round of treatments is scheduled to start 21st October at St.Andrews Hospital Clinic in Adelaide. I still have quite a lot of pain in my hand but that could be just me as I have reynards disease, leukaemia and other issues as well.

Yvonne.

Re: RT in Australia

Hi Newman,
thank you for that information. Sounds like we are on the right track. I rang today and my husband has an appt to see Dr Borg October 4th. Yvonne we live in Adelaide, so are lucky there ! I read some of the other stories where people have travelled to Europe for treatment ( like you Newman ) so am really glad that we have made progress and can have the treatment here now. Sorry you have such a long drive and to hear about your other health problems, I hope things improve for you.
Best Wishes Jan
