Re: Starting Radiation Treatments Next Monday

My son lived in a shared house in Ghent while attending ODU. He took me to lots of great places to eat in the area. I don't think we'd been to the place you mentioned...but look forward to trying it.

The nodules on my left hand (which also has the most and larger nodules) feel as though they are getting slightly firmer (size seems to be about the same). I wonder if that means anything; I haven't really seen much about the day-to-day changes one might expect with the radiation (which is why I really appreciate your updates). I'm sure it's much too early to predict the efficacy of the treatment. I'm also feeling pain in my hands, but no more or less than I had prior to treatment.

I'm scheduled for my next treatments the second week in October, which would be 7 weeks from initial treatment.

Interesting mutual ties to Ghent and ODU. My wife has two degrees and is working on a third all from ODU. Ghent does have some good eateries.

Also interesting about your pain and current status. I had some tenderness up until about one week after my first week of treatments. I'm now at 9 days since the last treatment, and only have one small area that seems only slightly tender, but nothing noticeable really.

I, too, am having my second week of treatments seven weeks from the first. I will log day to day reports when that time comes, 22-26 September.

My pain feels more achy (vs. nodule specific). I liken it to an arthritic achy pain across entire palm on left side. Right side also is achy, but not as bad. My entire left hand was radiated and only about 1/3 of right hand was done.

Only have tenderness on nodules when I mess with them too much. It does seem that one of the nodules on my left hand has already begun to shrink a little.

I've also just started noticing a little blistering on my left palm...will continue to use good quality lotion on it in hopes it will help.

All in all, I would still do it again with the chance of stopping progression (or better...experiencing regression).

That seems pretty positive to me, but what do I know?

I am now about three weeks after my first week of treatments. I have had no dryness, blistering, or soreness. I also don't detect any shrinking of nodules at this point. I was actually expecting more of a detectable result of the radiation in terms of hand side effects, but have had none.

In about another month I will return for the second set of treatments. So far, still happy with my choice to proceed, and happy with Dr. Weiss and the VCU clinic.
