Re: Swollen Hand

Hi Lizzie,

I have DD in both hands and LD in my right foot. I have swelling in my left hand that seems to worsen at night before bed. Swelling is a common elliment to a foreign problem in the body (Typically). Swelling, I believe, happens because your body is trying to combat the problem and heal itself. One thing I have discovered (And I don't know if this is documented), but I have swelling that is narrow and ahead of the nodule & about the length of a green bean. I have noticed that the nodule went from perfectly round (About the size of a pea), to more oblong now, following up the path of the narrow swelled area. It seems as if this fluid (Feels like fuid under the skin), is feeding the scar tissue, therefore, it's growing in the same path as the swelling. The pea sized nodule is oblong now and gaining towards my middle finger. The nodule becomes hard as it grows towards my finger, and I believe there is a relation between the two (Just my observation & Opinion). I wonder to myself if this is the case, but being I'm no doctor trained in this field, I really can't say if it is, but I wonder. I have read many DD testimonials regarding this disease, and many have talked or complained about swelling as being one of the symptoms involved. I am still eagerly trying to learn as much about this disease as I can, because until I developed these conditions (DD & LD), I had never heard of them before. I truly think the American population, as well as the world, should know about this awful disease, so they are aware incase they possibly experience early onset themselves. I hope my rambling reply helps some, and remember....You ARE NOT ALONE with this. We all suffer differently in our own way, some mild, some severe, but never the less, we all suffer with it to some degree. I wish you well, and I hope you are able to live a "Normal" as possible & happy life. Take care, and best wishes, Metzie.

Re: Swollen Hand

I also have swelling. I was recently diagnosed with Dupuytren's. My symptoms do not follow the rules that I have been reading about online, because I do have swelling and it is painful. My hand and 3 fingers are swollen all the time and have been for over 2 months. I had physical therapy on it once and followed the therapists instructions for a week and wound up in so much pain that it was keeping me up at night. I stopped using my had again after that and the pain got better. I have an appointment with a hand surgeon in December. The problems with my hand and fingers started I believe after I fell back and landed full weight on my left palm and fractured the radial head in my left arm. My hand didn't start to bother me (other than the bruises) until a month or two after my fall. My palm feels like it is sunburned and I cant touch it without some minor pain. If I try or accidentally bend any of the three fingers it hurts really bad. I do have a couple of bands showing on my palm and one has a dimple on the end of it and the 3 fingers are bent. I also have a few lumps/knots on my palm that are tender to the touch. The swelling in my fingers is very noticeable and has not gone down in a while, not even with ice applied. I keep reading that this is not painful, but what I have is very painful if I try and use my 3 fingers. I have had an MRI and nothing is broken. The PT and my regular doctor both said it was Dupuytrens and that is why my regular doctor referred me to a hand surgeon. Hope this helps you in some way to know yours is not the only one that is swelling.

Re: Swollen Hand

My knot showed up in late December 2017. This is mid March and I have a lot of swelling and pockets of edema all over the hand. It started between the knot and the corresponding fingers, but now can be seen all over the palm. The fingers and thumb are also larger with swelling than on the currently unaffected hand. Some areas look like poufed out pockets of fluid under the skin. I too, have some aches and shooting pains it the hand. Unfortunately, I have some shooting pains in the other hand even though there is no sign in that hand, currently. I wish that something could be done to help the problem now. As is, it's just wait for it to get bad enough for surgery or the breaking of the chords.
