I had posted this in the other thread where you asked, but I'll post it again here.
I live up near Rome, Georgia. But I've been seeing Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick at Resurgens Orthopedics in Roswell. She is off GA 400 on Hembree Road. She was actually trained by Dr. Eaton to do the NA procedure about 10 years ago. Since then she has been doing that procedure as well as surgery for Dupuytrens. She does not use Xiaflex. I have been very happy with her and her knowledge on DC.
I'm waiting for an appointment to see a doctor in Rome who is also highly recommended. Roswell is quite a ways from where I live and that makes it harder to see Dr. K. I really did like her though. You might want to check her out.
I have also seen Dr. Bronier Costas at Hand and Upper Extremity Center of Georgia. He is by Northside Hospital. He did my Xiaflex injection. While he seemed like a good doctor I wasn't impressed with his bedside manner and chose not to return to him.

Re: USA & dupuytren Doctor
I would want to see a doctor who had extensive experience with both NA and Xiaflex. NA is more likely to cause nerve damage than Xiaflex so I want to rely on the judgment of an experienced practitioner to decide which to do or whether as was done recently on my hand a combination of the two procedures.
In my last procedure the Xiaflex was injected (which takes about 12 hours to dissolve the tissue) and then 3 days later the hand was straighened and then a NA performed on additional areas that remained in tension. The doctor was Keith Denkler in Larkspur, CA who has done many hundreds of NA procedures and hundreds of Xiaflex procedures as well.
A problem I found when looking for a local practitioner approved to inject Xiaflex was that the majority were not hand specialists and next to none had ever performed a NA procedure. I would not trust such inexperienced people with my hand.

Re: USA & dupuytren Doctor
Jolene,
Did you see the thread with Dr. Kirkpatrick's name in it? I posted an article on a discussion between a couple of doctors, two of them are Dr. K and Dr. Eaton. It's an older article but I thought you might like to see it because of Dr. K.

Re: USA & dupuytren Doctor
Hi Dawn, Yes, thank you for this. I have seen that article. My consultation is tomorrow. I am praying Dr. K will be able to detect the very, very early stages. I know by the feel and the sensation that I have DD in both hands. It is not visible to the untrained eye.
My goal is to find treatment before it to become visible to the untrained eye. The trick seems to be, finding a doctor to be on the same page.
I have not heard but have been wondering has anyone ever had an MRI on the hand to detect all the diseased area? Is this something any doctor would consider?
If I had the funds I’d be on the 1st plane to Germany for treatment with Prof. S I am seeking radiation for DD. There appears to be too many horror stories with NA or Xiaflex and the recurrence seems to be off the charts

I went back and forth with my radiologist about an MRI. He did NOT think it necessary but finally relented. In the meantime I spoke to my surgeon and he didn't think it necessary so I didn't. I did go ahead and have a fairly large area treated--both hands including palms and fingers past the MCP joints.
There is literature but I have no idea where I read it

Re: USA & dupuytren Doctor
Jolene,
My doctor required an MRI of the whole hand. I believe he did it because as a radiation oncologisdt it was standard. The MRI did show all the diseased area, the nodule and the cord. He was able to isolate and treat just the diseased area. It was expensive and my insurance did not cover it. I believe there are other less expensive ways of obtaining the same results. Most people do not have MRI's, some have CT scans and some x-rays.

CT scans are give heavy doses of radiation. I wonder if it would be enough to be calculated in the RT load. Any techs out there know if CT radiation exposure is measured in gys or found online?
