Re: Women with Dupuytren's

I am 49, and I noticed my nodules when I was 47 and I had surgery on my left hand shortly after. That was a little over a year ago. Now I have it in both hands( Yes it came back and worse in my left hand), and I also have Ledderhose in both feet, and just had surgery on my left foot on the 5th of June. I had a hysterectomy when I was 38 so maybe that is the reason why I am experiencing this at an earlier age. My father had Dupuytren's as does my brother, two uncles and an aunt. I am the only one with Ledderhose.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

Mine started at age 41 after a traumatic injury to my hand and it is progressing more quickly than my father who did not get the disease until he was into his 60's

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

I went through menopause at approx. age 42. Dupuytren's has just become active and more aggressive this year (age 54). I have taken bioidentical hormones (including estrogen) since menopause. Just FYI

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

The steroid type shot in my palm of right finger with very painful Dc that was in middle finger completely healed that or almotst 2 years but now I have continual swollen index finger that is not DC it seems but more like tendonitis/arthritis which I have in other finger joints, wrists, ankles and knees. It all seems related the DC and these other joint issues.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

I find my current situation very interesting and am pretty sure that I've read this here. Since being diagnosed in July of this year, I was having such trouble, pain, itching, the skin on both my hands was so sensitive and just hurt. My nodule by the end of the day was just yelling at me, red and angry.

In the last week and a half, my hands aren't as stiff, particularly in the morning and the sensitivity has really settled down.

I think that I can see a cord starting but that could be my imagination. I wonder if the disease has just taken a break, settled down and is giving me a break for a while.

I've been wearing a glove often and it seems to be helping - or not, I choose to think it is helping. They are made by b-grl and I also have a pair made by Harbinger. I like these too but need a larger size.

Perhaps it's the calm before the storm but I'm enjoying it while it lasts and wish that all of you experience this type of calm at one time or another.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

chewie; DD does seem to have period of activity and then can have long periods of inactivity. With luck yours has now settled down. You may get no further progression for some time. Perhaps even years.

Seems to me that the less you meddle with it the greater the chance that it will stay dormant for a while.

cindy850:
As far as i know and what i have read and been told it is only hereditary and it runs in either side of family or both generations back. I'm 57 and there is no one living on either side of family that has this and when you start checking into back generations that also is hard to find out anything. So i just have to live with the fact that it come from someone in my family. I don't believe its caused from anything else because if that was true more of us would have the problem. Yes? Should i thank them now or later for giving me this crazy disease? LOL
Hi Cindy, like the way you describe Dup's,first time I go on here~ not IT bloke~I have had it six years, couldnt spell it till last xmas~def can now. you take care

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

Hi
I am a 37 year old black woman who has gone through premature menopause after having a total hysterectomy last year because of medical reasons. I have been diagnosed with Dupuytren’s disease which has progresseed rapidly. I have been told that I am a medical mystery and that it is unheard of for a dark skinned person to suffer from this disease as only white European people are sufferers and I am the first non-white European he has ever herd of in his whole career.

Although my nan Is white, ha ha I am taking Oestrogen only HRT as I am allergic to the synthetic form of Progesterone. I also had Aadhesive Capsulitis after I went through menopause and had to ha e a shoulder op 3 weeks ago to fix it. I agree totally that there is connection.

Re: Women with Dupuytren's

Not sure this would help anyone but my dc middle finger was painful so probably was a swollen tendon/tendon sheath too which the shot helped 2 years ago. Now with the index finger now swollen and painful seems to not exactly be DC. Also wrists and one elbow painful and thumbs and fingertips have arthritis. I was just reading on a website about tendon icing - dipping arm up to elbow in ice water for 10 seconds and repeating like 10 times in 2 hour time frame about and doing for several days - well tonight started and swelling seems less.
