XIAFlex cost

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am going to get this treatment (I hope), after we submitted my medical information (fortunately I have good coverage) the Speciality Pharmacy division informed that the treatment was now going to cost $6500. How's that for the pharmacy companies. Is there no recourse that we can apply to this.

It seems that because the medication procurement procedure has been designed so that nobody feels the pain of this except for the uninsured and our medical insurance companies that we just go ahead. I am sure that if I was a medical insurance company that I would figure out a way to pass these charges on.

Such a shame....

P:)

Re: XIAFlex cost

Several people have been able to get grants from the http://www.healthwellfoundation.org/ . Look under General Information. Xiaflex is one of the medicines they cover. Looks there are some criteria - hopefully you'll be able to use it!

Re: XIAFlex cost

I applied for a grant from Healthwell. They covered what my Medicare coverage didn't, so very little out of pocket expense involved. I donate to Healthwell now to give back a little of what they've given me. BTW, my Xiaflex procedure in July 2014 went very well and I am quite pleased. The DC may come back but it could happen with NA and surgery too.

Re: XIAFlex cost

I had NA at the end of September. The procedure itself took about 15 minutes. My pinky was at 37 degrees before the procedure and now it's normal. We live close to Rochester, MN so I went to Mayo Clinic for the procedure. I need to wear a splint at night until the end of December. Unlike surgery, there is NO physical therapy. I walked out of the clinic feeling wonderful! Insurance paid for most of the cost, but the cost was a TENTH of the cost of Xiaflex or surgery. My local doctor said he did some research after I had talked to him and he reported that surgery was the best option. THAT'S TOTAL NONSENSE. Surgery involves a lengthy recovery period and is 10 times as expensive. I understand every case is different but my suggestion is to consult with a doctor who is familiar with Needle Aponeurotomy (NA) before looking at Xiaflex or surgery.
