Answer
Needle Procedure - miraculous !

I have been researching DC procedures and alternatives on the Internet for two years.

Found Dr. Charles Eaton in Jupiter Florida was inteseted enough to travel to France and learn the needle
aponevrotomy technique ( aka faciotomy).

Spoke with him on the phone and continued contact when he returned.

Went in on Monday Morning Nov, 10th at 10 A.M. and was out in less than an hour. I placed my hand on a table in from of me and watched as he felt the area and selected a place where the fibrous tissue had fromed a lump in the palm of my hand, He then injected a few cc of local anesthetic and then picked up a second syringe with eiher mor anesthetic or saline in and and with a 25 gauge ( small ) needle.
HE worked carefully selecting thetissue that was causing the contraction and worked the needle backa nd forth and we could hear the fibers breaking and leeting the finger move. After about two minutes, he placed the hand ( palm up) and put pressure on that ( ring) finger; and, we could witness additional popping sounds and the finger was extended almost fully.
He then repeated the procedure on the little finger and results were almost as spectacular. The whole process took less than twenty minutes and was almost painless.
His office manager and clinical assistant was as pleased as Dr Eaton and I were when she witnessed this
miraculous change.
Dr. eaton put an antibiotic on the places where the needles had entered the palm and wrapped it with gauze. A few hours later, I replaced the wrap with a gauze steripad. He gave me a prescription for a pain killer in case I deveolped any discomfort later. I di d not even need an aspirin tablet.
attached are my photos of the hand prior to and ten hours after the procedure.

Thanks George

George, thanks for the detailed report. My only remaining fear is that Dr. Eaton would look a the thick web at the base of my thumb and tell me it's too large for the NA technique to release. Was your contracture (band) large or extensive, and did he say anything about limits of the procedure?

Thanks George

George,

Congrats!!!!

I didn't see any "before and after pictures" on Eaton's sight, but I was very pleased to see he has greatly expanded his discussion of NA with topics like NA Vs Surgery. For the first time we have an experienced American Surgeon who performs BOTH procedures. Gee....I wonder which he'll do more of.

George,

Your hand looks great: I am much relieved that Dr. Eaton has accomplished so much with so little experience.

George,
That is fantastic. I am headed to Dr. Eaton in January for a PIP correction. Thank you for the pics. That makes me feel better about the NA.

Three Years and counting

It has been three years and one week since Dr. Eaton performed NA on the pinkie and ring finger of my right hand. ( Posted "Miraculous Change" on 11/12/03.
Put together a web page at http://www.angelfire.com/rings/dupuytrens/

I have some cords growing back; but, do not think I will need another NA treatment for at least another year, perhaps longer.
Any other patients with long term reports ?

2 years and counting...

I had two procedures in the summer of 2004 as it recurred very quickly - a month - but since then no recontracture... I do think cords are developing in both hands and in thumb webbing too...but have been taking colchicine and acetyl l carnitinue which appears to be holding things in check. I had to stop taking colchicine for a few weeks in spring and my hands really started to hurt again. Eaton prescribed it for me after my second procedure and its been great so far.
