Any connection to Agent Orange exposure?

About 3 years ago our daughter (now 24) began having the symptoms of Dupuytren's Contracture of her little finger. She recently opted for surgery and instead of the expected "capsulated" lump the surgeon expected (as showed on the MRI), he found the growth and what appeared to be a root system tangling all over/around the finger. Surgery was a lot more complicated than expected and surgeon removed all he could comfortable get to; however we understand much was not removable. From what we've read, she's probably a good candidate for recurrence.

The surgeon and pathologist who ran the tests on the sample were both very puzzled, not only by her age/sex, but by the way this had grown like a mass of roots around the finger. Her surgeon said he's never seen one like this, and he specializes in hand surgery.

Everything we read says this disease is thought to be hereditary, but we can't find any occurrences in any of our families.

My question is whether there has ever been any association between this disease and a parent's exposure to Agent Orange? My husband was in Vietnam during the time of heavy spraying of Agent Orange and stationed in the heaviest sprayed area. We know that results of this can be passed down to offspring.

Google

I 'Googled' the words Agent Orange and Dupuytrens together and found there were a number of hits. One report looked really interesting...but the print was mighty small...you'll probably have to print it...to read it....good luck.

Agent Orange in Vietnam

That is very interesting Diane....you certainly got my attention. I too operated in an area in Vietnam where AO was used. I have Dup, Peyronie's, Ledderhose, and am working on two frozen shoulders, and some very strange symptoms in my arms. I had never considered that there might be a connection with AO. Of course, I never considered that frozen shoulders could be part of this cursed disease either. I will be interested to see if this thread receives any other replies. Thank you for your imput.

Connections

Did someone say "connection between Dups and Frozen Shoulder?" I've read so much stuff on Dups that I forget where, but apparently some evidence does link the two. They are, after all, both due to rogue collagen. And sure enough, about six months after my first Dups surgery (and thank to NA hopefully my last) I developed Frozen Shoulder. And I thought I'd had enough Pain at the hands of our wonderful and caring physical therapists for one year......but Nooooooo.

We al know Duops is genetic, yet no evidence in my family.....except my sister had......you guessed it.......Frozen Shoulder. The agent O. connection is fascinating. If we could find the connection, maybe it will lead to a better understanding of the biology of this disease.

Connections

Some people that were exposed to Agent Orange have DP ..... so, is there a connection ?
Some deaf people have DP ..... so, is there a connection ?
Some alcoholics have DP ..... so, is there a connection ?
Some people that take vit C have DP ..... so, is there a connection ?
Some ........ etc....

Reminds me of a old silly logic : Jaguar sportscars are generally red, so, all red cars must be sportscars.

DC and frozen shoulder

Randy h,
There are many quality studies connecting DC and frozen shoulder. I listed a couple previously. There is none that correlate frozen shoulder with DC surgery as you suggest.

Randy h,
Perhaps your sister got frozen shoulder from your DC surgery.

Oh please.....

...enough with the remarks..... The Frozen Shoulder certianly *is* related to Dup ...and the Agent Orange question *is* valid.

If you re-read the original post....the surgeons where surprised at how the DC presented and THAT'S why the question about Agent Orange.
