Hi, Ellen. Are all 5 finger tips numb on left hand, or
just 2 and 1/2? Which ones? In addition to DD/DC, I have
calcifications (spurs) in the acromium process that impinge
on my surraspinatus muscle if I sleep on my right side with
the arm extended above my shoulder and under my head (arm as
pillow.) My left side is fine. If I sleep on my right side
and rest my head on my arm, I get numb/tingling fingers and
a very sore shoulder. My Orthopedist ruled out rotator cuff
tear and agreed about sleep position cause. It is a guess.
Thoracic outlet syndrome can also cause arm/hand symtoms.
The Brachial nerve branches above the elbow into the Radial and Ulnar nerves. Each nerve supplies 2 1/2 fingers ( that
helps idenify which branch or both.) You may have just DD/DC; or; you may have an unrelated condition co-existent
with DD/DC. I am unsure how one might get an exact diagnosis. Mine seems clear; I have DD/DC, but the finger
tips only feel numb when I sleep on my right arm. (It is my
favorite position; I wake up often and reposition my arm.)
(Thoracic outlet syndrome equates with one form of "pinched nerve.") Any muscle involvement/weakness. Good luck.
