Answer
natural or holistic therapy

I have just been diagnosed with Dupuytren's. My hand surgeon will do nothing right now as I only have nodules in both hands - no contracture at this point. Does anyone know of any natural or holistic therapies which may help or at least hold off this disease? I am considering trying to find a holistic physician in the metro Detroit, MI area.

early stage

In such an early stage radiation therapy would help but it is not a natural therapy and anyway difficult to find in the US.

Some people report that diets help, like eating lots of tomatos or avoiding anything that inflames the body (greasy, salty food). Some also report that rubbing in herbs like arnica helped. But none of these things seem to help consistently. When someone else tries it, it typically doesn't help.

Not really natural (though claiming to be) is low energy laser therapy. You might have a look at http://www.microlightcorp.com/research.asp. But we have little evidence that it is a successful therapy. But maybe worth a try.

I myself had homeopathic treatment for a while. It didn't help anything, unfortunately.

Should you find something that works, please let us know!

Re: natural or holistic therapy

My Doc put me on MSM four weeks ago (Methylsulfonylmethane)and wanted to see me in three Mo. The only thing I have noticed is my hand is not as tight when I open it or stretch it out. Has anyone heard of this treatment?

Re: natural or holistic therapy

Hi-I`ve tried a lot in the way of natural /holistic thapies viz-

60 acupuncture treatments
hand held Genesen Pointers
a mineral heat lamp
electro acupuncture
dipping my affected left hand in hot water--

the net result-since diagnosis in April 05-the dupuytren`s advanced in the left hand-
and the right hand-also lederhosen appeared in both feet.It was for this reason my acupuncturists and myself concluded the natural treatments weren`t working!!
Thanks to contribrutors to this forun I was able to go to Essen Germany for a treatment that does knock the Dupuytren`s back in early stages-and that is RADIO-THERAPY--
This has been my experience and I really gave the alternative therapies a good go!!
I haven`t given up on them entirely since I`m eating loads of tomotoe products daily and upping my intake of anti -oxidant foods. Also I`m taking ANC-check this out on this forum.Best of luck and let us know if you have a better outcome.
Phil
