?

I have recently been diagnosed with Dupuytren after noticing fleshy lumps in the palm if my hand and noticeable contracture if ring and little finger. My question is could this be happening as a result of severe ulnar nerve damage 1 year ago. I have quite a lot if pain and numbness
Not sure how much is from the nerve damage or the Dupyutrens. Appreciate any feedback.

Re: ?

Hi Meg sorry to hear your story. I wonder what treatment you had for the ulna nerve or how the damage was caused in the first place? Surgery and traumaregularly get reported as preceding the appearance or a flare of Dupuytren’s. There’s a chance in your case they are indeed related but it’s really difficult to be sure. Are you seeking treatment for the contracture?

Re: ?

Meg I fell a year ago and fractured my arm/elbow in three places. I have 3 plates and 20 screws in my arm now. I damaged the ulnar nerve when I fell plus they had to move it around during surgery. I have gone to PT and am currently on 2400 mg a day of gabapentin for this. The gabapentin helps some.I never had any signs of Dupuytren till about 7 months after l. fell i have also had injections into the sympatic nerve system to try to get some relief.

Re: ?

So it’s likely that the fracture and surgery led to the appearance of Dupuytren’s. This kind of link, is anecdotally at least, very common. Is your DD stable or progressing? There are options for treating it, all shown on the website attached to the forum.

Re: ?

Trauma to your hand and arm can accelerate dupytrens. I broke my wrist and developed it in my late 40’s. My siblings are getting it in their late 50’s.
