This thread is thought to COLLECT ALL EXPERIENCES MADE by affected INDIVIDUALS WHO UNDERWENT

3D (= three dimensional) CT (= Computer tomography) PLANNING of DUPUYTREN & LEDDERHOSE DISEASE

THIS METHOD of RAIOTHERAPY TREATMENT PLANNING allows ....


(1) TO AVOID UNNECESSARY RADIATION EXPOSURE TO UNINVOLVED ANATOMICAL STRUCTURES

EXAMPLES:

> AVOID RT to the thenar an hypothenar muscles (30Gy may reduce perfusion and function of muscles)

> AVOID RT to all thumb and finger tips & nail beds (30 Gy may cause severe NAIL GROWTH problems)

> AVOID RT to the hand wrist and carpal tunnel (30Gy may aggravate a beginning carpal tunnel syndrome )

> AVOID RT to the backside of the hand & fingers by full dose thru-an-thru RT exposure,



(2) TO OPTIMIZE DOSE EXPOSURE & DISTRIBUTION within the planned target volume

EXAMPLES;

> increase electron energy with "thicker hands"

> use bolus material to reduce penetration depth of radiation dose in "thinner hands"
