Carpal Tunnel ands dups

I am having nerve condunctin studies for carpal tunnel in both hands on Monday. Is this common with dups? Have others experienced it? I'm not looking forward to this, but it does sound as though some of the stuff fits: the numbness, the terrible aching up to my shoulder. Im curious to knowq what others have experienced. Thank you, as always.

Re: Carpal Tunnel ands dups

Hi Linda, the nerve conductivity test is not painfull. An electronic pulse is sent down the arm to each finger and the response time is recorded via a computer. Sometimes your fingers will flex from the signal. Have you tested yourself for carpal tunnel. Do a google search and the tests are on line . Regards.

I thought they used the needle test for carpal tunnel? If it's just the impulse test that's no big deal. Are you aware of any increased incidence with dupuytren's, or vice versa?

Re: Carpal Tunnel ands dups

Hi Linda,I have met many who suffered with Carpal Tunnel Syndrone who did not have Dupuytren. Usually older persons both male and female. I was tested after surgery as I had the tingling sensation in my fingers, which disappeared after 6 months. It was thought that surgery caused the problem.

Re: Carpal Tunnel ands dups

I have had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery in by thirtys. In my forties I developed leadderhose's disease. In my middle fiftys I developed one dupuytrens nodule with no contraction yet in one hand. I do believe there is some connection between carpal tunnel and dupuytren's. I noticed you mentioned upper arm pain. This was a bigger problem for me than the numbness. Because frozen shoulder is also more common with people who have dupuytren's I view all the many upper arm and shoulder problems I have had as a possible connection to my dupuytren's. I also have had the nerve condution studies with both the needles and electric current several times and did not find them to be too bad. They gave me peace of mind that my area of nerve compression was at my wrist. I had doubts about where the problem was since my upper arm ached so badly. The surgery did help a great deal. Good luck Carol

Re: Carpal Tunnel ands dups

Thanks a lot guys. Newman, I was aware that carpal tunnel occurs frequently in non dups pts. I was just wondering if there was any connection between the two, as in frozen shoulder, for instance. Thanks Carol, for the reassurance about the test, (I'm not a big fan of needles). If you guys say it's not too bad, i trust you. Interestingly, my oldest dtr is being tested the day after I am, nothing like keeping it in the family! Again thanks, this website is a wonderful, professional, helpful site. I'm so greatful it's here.

LindaJR, there is a short comment on http://www.dupuytren-online.info/related_diseases.html. Not very sophisticated though.
