Clinical studies

Hi. I haven't been on here for a while. I am still not certain if I have Dupuytren so am after a bit more information. I went back to my GP (a different one this time) who said I had trigger finger. He offered me a steroid injection which i had in July. This eventually wore off in October so was referred to the physio. I have seen the physio today who feels that I have got Dupuytren. He thinks I should have another steroid injection as I don't have severe enough symptoms to warrant a referral to see a specialist yet. My finger is at a 10% contraction but I have got a lot of discomfort in my finger and contraction to my palm when I wake up. He also feels I have thickening in my left hand as well although I haven't got any other problems with it.
I wondered if there is any trials or studies that I could take part in if only to get a proper diagnosis?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi Ruth

There's a difference between a Dupuytren's contracture caused by a cord, and a trigger finger stuck bent caused by a swollen tendon or thickened sheath. A hand surgeon will be able to give you that much of a differential diagnosis. Push for a referral to a specialist. Clinical studies or trials are not the appropriate path for you to consider. A second opinion is always your right as an option if your GP will not agree.
