Cost of radiation treatment? 7 days vs. two 5 day treatments?
Can anyone tell me how much their radiation therapy cost?
I am scheduled to have RT at Stanford Hospital in 2 weeks. Because it is so late in the year, my first session of RT will be in 2019 and the second in 2020. Stanford game me an estimated cost of $80,000-$100,000 for the second treatment alone! I have no idea how accurate this is, but Stanford has been know to charge a lot of money, necessary or not.
They offered to do a 7 day treatment instead of the 2 treatments separated by 12 weeks and said that there have been good results with that, although they usually follow Dr. Seegenschmidt's protocol : ) I just read Dr. S's post on the difference on 2 treatments vs one, but I don't want to spend a fortune. Any advice or estimated costs?
My insurance is Anthem Blue Cross PPO with max family out of pocket $6,000.
Thanks, Adrienne
PS - Just had NA done two weeks ago by Dr. Denkler in Marin, CA and I am very happy with the results. I got the recommendation off the board here.

Re: Cost of radiation treatment? 7 days vs. two 5 day treatments?
Hi Adriennels I’m in the UK and have no idea how the US healthcare and insurance system works. It seems to me your starting point is an in network doctor that supplies the right codes to the insurance company, the cost is always negotiable (between hospital and insurance), and the cost to you depends on your deductible, co-pay, HMO PPO, etc. In other words the quoted difference of 5v7 days is not going to be the deciding factor.
You may get an answer here but I recommend you post in the DART FB group as there’s lots of experience there dealing with the US system.
